Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum so I'll be posting some sketched work in the next day or two. If you want to see one of my really early cg attempts, take a quick look at my "website". Not much to it yet but I'll be adding more soon.

Really impressed with the standard of work and range of themes here.

Keep up with the goods

SWMatt

maybe we should start speedpainting 5 at 50 pages?

Why?

We only started new ones, cause the old Forum-Software had a Limit.

Like all old things, they die. And where better to start sp5 at page 50? I dun really care though... it's up to everyone.

PAINter

It is strange how trouble with media can affect something so basic as drawing. I really found this true in oil paint. I could not even get the basic proportions of the head correct. Still having trouble with it. You would think that changing media would not have this problem, but I can't seem to get things were I want them in painter, and the value range is way to high and colors are strange. Those should not have anything to do with painter/ps, but I guess it does.

This image has nothing special in it- I have done this kinda crap in PS till I drop. I thought to trobleshoot painter by eliminating variables (like what and how I was painting). Lesson is painter is not photoshop, on a really basic level.

spooge -- Don't fight it, just love it! I think Painter has helped you climb another step up Parnassos, but that's just me =)

Spooge - it's often amazing how much we see when engaged in the process of self criticism, and by comparison the same can be said by what we do not see. From my perspective (obviously a fresh one), I can don't see too much that is different from what you do in PS, but there are some things that standout a bit as PTR, though.

What do you mean by that? Are you saying that too much intent and focus of what you're trying to paint is a detriment to obtaining the desired result (in other words are you trying to hard)? I have often found that the harder I try the more likely I will trash whatever it is I start - is that along the lines of what you mean?

I have not used painter very much, but I will offer a theory... why not Smile

It seems to me that most of the best artwork (traditional and digital) is done with an essentially restricted set of tools - a small well understood set of brushes and colors that the artist chooses. I suspect the secret to Painter is also choosing a small set of brushes and colors. Soooo.... that's another big difference between PS and Painter - besides the interface. Painter offers so much and needs so much tweaking, it is a long curve while figuring out what the restricted set of tools should be. Until then, that thing at the end of your arm is clumsy and not a well oiled extension of your mind.

eh... my 2 cents... a bit obvious but thought I'd mention it ... Shocked

@craig, i cannot see your problem, this picture looks great again .. but i think its the same problem as in your new "bad sketches"-galerie. Its not the only the result but what you tried doesnt came out.

Edit: Havent you red my privatmessage about two brokenlinks on your page and a defect(?) emailserver?

... have to post a picture Embarassed ... no ref again ... no luck again.

Tom Carter - I saw that thread! Unfortunately I can't help ... I eat
this + 250 g of this + 250g of this every day Confused so I'm incompetent.
I did some research but with no luck. Sorry...
Just the paprika base comment makes me wonder if it is really a typically German recipe. You could just ask people from other contries as well.
Maybe it was a German interpretation of Hungarian (just a bad example) "damned grilled chops" or how did you call 'em? Wink

Duracel - Love the perspective.

thx the perspective was easy, without the roteted tower which was really hard for me to get looking well.

In yours, the background looks good, but the 2 persons stand a bit in the air and the dragon/snake is imho way to saturated and looked too detailed compeared to the two persons. Wink
