looks awsome man especially the blood on the sword. only one problem i can see is that his left arm is way to short, anyway awsome pic

I don't know what exactly you were going for in this picture... is he going to die due to his wounds he took in combat? You have to realize the fight for freedom has never been fought by big shiny superheroes but ordinary people with an extraordinary strong will to make a change and who most probably had nothing to lose. You know, the bravest men are those who've lost everything worth living for. The picture as presented fails to state anything against hate 'n violence IMHO. It more looks like a fallen hero (maybe not physically, but at least his will is broken) who "carves himself a mark" into the ground (sword) like some sort of mile stone.

This is usually the moment where the epic protagonist of a story is surrounded by his left comrade-in-arms and says/does something meaningful and/or emotional, like telling his fellas how much he wanted to become a farmer like his dad when he was a kid and some other sentimental bullshit - and dies. But he ain't no farmer, he's a "hero", a fantasy hero sort of, who became a hero by slaughtering his foes. The history books are full of "heroes" who went out for war (crusades,e.g.) and died, but none of 'em was really a hero.

Real "heroes" risk their life and integrity for achieving a higher purpose, proving outstanding courage and humanity. Like Oscar Schindler, for example. People like him are a counter-sign of violence and hate; they can make us believe there's still hope left in a world of tyranny and blind enviousness. Folks like your guy above just fucking kill and die in some fucking bloody battle.

Otherwise: fix his eyes, he seems to be squinting. And: nice blood effect.

Thanks for Your comments! Especially the one of [666]Flat was extremely useful to me.
I painted the picture in one 13hour session and thus it preserved my initial impuls to paint it quite well. I now see clearly, that this painting is NOT a statement against hate and violence. I betrayed myself by thinking it would be. It clearly shows that I presume violence to be unavoidable I think. I should have painted a picture with an innocent person being killed by a warrior or such if I would have wanted to state against violence. But instead this came out of my mind. I dont�t think, the painting is the problem - it's the message I presumed it would transport. The real message of this painting is a statement against the abuse of power and the dark forces which begon humanity. An evel man isn�t dangerous if he has no power. The real danger lies in people which are powerful and become evel...

wow flat very insightfull......

the only thing thats bothering me is the cape...it looks thick i dunno if thats shadow but its not really showing it....look at the left side of the the cape the angle is to sharp and on the right where its flat on the ground it looks like its 3 inches thick as for the lighting and coloring i will let someone with more understanding of that subjects to give you a proper critique...
