Hiya,
thanks to all those who replied to my last post, here's an updated version. I decided that the image needed a focal point so I've added a boat, I've also made the lighthouse bigger although it is now far from being the subject and is there to merely add secondary interest. Although the boat was very much an afterthought I think it fits in really well with the composition.
The boat itself could be improved I feel, I don't know why but it's not as convincing as it could be, something about the way it's rendered, or maybe the colours/values?
Any other crits or comments are more than welcome.

heya
I remember your last picture and you are so good.
The sky is so super.
As an enhancement you could maybe tone down the ripples in the sea a bit, somehow feels like they are too bright somehow, I think the boat is super too.
I am not a pro so maybe my opinion should not be trusted.
have a nice day

No kidding matthew... pro.. ha!
ahem* Amazing picture btw. I loove the feeling it sends out. Reminds me of The Perfect Storm.
And that lighthouse in the background is like a Where's Waldo Mystery. It doesn't take control of the painting but it still gives a strong sense of plot. No, and I don't think the ripples shuold be toned down, cause it's a damn storm right? My only advice is, and don't take this as critism cause the painting's awesome and you're still working on it, but the sky may look more attractive if it'd be darker, or brighter. I'm taking a gander that it's morning, or the afternoon telling by the top of the clouds. But even still, it's amazing. _________________ Your father was fun, but your mother was better. |

Exactly my thoughts when i saw for the first time... And I am as unsure as you... I think the green light could be altered first of all.
(I liked the waves to the left more before your update )
Edit: OOPS! I forgott to say: awesome pic! |

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated.
I'm going to keep the sky and the ripples bright, because I like that sense of stormy light, dark clouds against a bright sky and the ripples in the water reflecting that bright sky and having a sense of shimmery light to them.
However, the boat definitely needs work, at the moment it looks like a Tonka toy floating on the ocean. The perspective on the cabin is wrong, and it needs more detail and texture. Some dirt perhaps. Any suggestions eagerly appreciated.
As for the waves on the left Capt. Fred, you may well be right, they were simpler before. I added some texture so they would fit in with the rest of the water but it might have been better to keep them simple. Luckily my handywork was done on a separate layer and the old waves are still intact underneath. _________________ www.itchy-animation.co.uk

Hey frog, the decision to put in the boat was a good one, it looks awesome, really awesome, reminds me of the movie "the perfect storm"...I think the boat is perfect and that the picture is finished and should not be tampered with! |

As before, AWSOME!! I agree with the above comments, add detail/rendering to the boat. Right now it looks like one of my kids inflatable bathtub toys. _________________
