I like lots of texture and raw, unpolished surfaces. Painter is great for this, but as I tend to do pretty high resolution pictures more and more often I'm looking for ways to keep that "dirty" feel to the images.
As the pictures get bigger the less I see of brushtrokes (individual bristles!)and happy accidents. Does anyone know of a way to do this? I can scale the bruhes, right, but the bigger they get the less indivdual they appear on my screen. Get big enough and everything looks the same.
The texures are also scaleable (thank god!), but what I'm mainly looking for is a way to adjust the bristle size for a brush like Variable Flat. Or how to create a big brush that behaves like VF.
Also if anyone knows how to make the Variable Splatter airbrush create larger stains and splatters you will have my gratitude for all eternity!
Hope you can help me!
Cheers,

Mon,
Brushes' Variable Flat:
Because for Flat variants the Brush Controls palette's Bristle section is greyed out, the best I can think of is to enlarge the brush Size, then in the Brush Controls palette's Size section, adjust the Feature slider to the right a little.
This doesn't increase the individual bristle size in proportion to the brush Size but it decreases bristle density so the bristle marks are more evident. You'll need to experiment to find the best combination of brush Size and Feature settings.
The slight Jitter will also be more evident so if you don't like it, in the Brush Controls palette's Random section, move the Jitter slider to 0.00.
Airbrushes' Variable Splatter:
As with the Brushes' Variable Flat, the Bristle section is greyed out. You can try adjusting the brush Size and Feature slider, though, and maybe get what you're looking for.
The defaults are Size: 27.4, Feature: 10.3
To get larger individual splatters, try moving the Feature slider to 15.0 and make a brush stroke. The brushstroke density has increased. Now move the Size slider to 38.0 and make a brushstroke. Depending on your pressure, the brushstroke should be similar to the default variant's brushstroke, but with everything larger.
Or, instead of making the brush Size larger, you could control density of the brushstroke by using less pressure.
That's all I can dream up at the moment.
Good luck, |
