How come this composition works? No elements fighting for attention! Is it because the two trees seem to point at the cat?
It's sooo vivid great.
It just took some time until I saw the woman. Maybe she should be more in the background not so close to the foreground elements (don't know how to say it) surrounded by green!? And the cat seems to be as big as the woman. _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

i think the composition works because there is so much detail that the only place where the eye can take a rest is on the cat/
although this type of stuff is not my cup of tea it still looks good. and i would also agree that the girl is pretty much invisable tell you stare at the image for a min ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ i have seen it all, i have done it all, i can't remember most of it? |

Nice one again Phil! Remember to tell us when your book comes out and where to get it.
I can't say how kids will like your story and the illustrations, but it sure hits my inner child to the right spot. ![Cool](images/smiles/icon_cool.gif) |

Wow, it's all so uniformly and highly saturated & lit that it (almost) hurts my eye. It's all flat. Seeing such hard light, one expects heavy shadows to balance the piece & guide the eye.
I disagree with the previous comments: the pic is not readable at the first look. _________________ www.ELLioTEK.net PLAY BOUNTY KILLERS! |

Personnally I don't care if it's readable at first sight because It's not a logotype he's working on, it's a garden explosion in Spring done in a fresh childbook style.
Fuziness, saturated colours are imho logical and the cat gets all the attention he needs.
Let the lil'ones explore the whole garden, you'll see they will love it !
A candy store I tell you, it's a candy store ! ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ Tekeli-li = / = Deviant |

Readable or not readable??? Where's Mrs. Binkum...??? There are also some bugs'n things in the pic. With this picture I am purposely creating an image that needs to be looked over and search within... That is one of the aspects of children's illustration that is fun... creating pictures that kids have to find things in... roam over with their eyes and (importantly) be able to point to with little fingers.
[EDIT] I was writing the above while SoMK was submiting his comment, so I missed it. That is exactly the point -- like a candy store... ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ HonePie.com

the cat is coming to my eye directly.I like your art very much but this one isnt as good as the others
1. its too bright
2. you have chosen light, bright colors.I miss some darker or shadows. Also if its a children book-non reality-related pic.
You know what i mean? |

My impression is that this image is more about the feeling of summer than a story. I too spot the cat because of the darker parts, but the girl is too immersed in the saturation fro me to notice. I think it conveys hot, bright, overwhelming summer nicely. Though not being instantly readable, it could be a nice change of pace in a series of pictures, I believe. Thumbs up from me. _________________ www.torsteinnordstrand.com |
