Cute dog! While I'm not the person to be offering advice on shadows and lighting. I personaly look at pictures I have laying around the house and try to duplicate the tones. Sometimes shadows are more blue, sometimes more gray. Sometimes highlights are more "shiner" sometimes more flat, sometimes more yellow, and so on. Even if the picture isant of a dog, it makes shading a ton easyer. _________________

Hi there!
I like your picture, it's not at all that bad. In fact, it's a texbook example of color theory! =) You used a touch of green in the shadow under the right eye. Since green is complementary to red it makes the eye pop out quite a lot. The shadow around the left eye is slightly red, which puts it further into the back of the picture. This way you've got one eye out in front, and one a long way into the "space" of the picture.
Some artists like to use complementary colors to make shapes and objects jump in and out of a painting, while others like all colors to be strictly organised in depth. Either way (or better both) is good, try working with both ways to create the effects you want.
I hope this helps!
Cheers,

Al Ian: Thanks man, and thanks for the tips, I will have to do that!
Andy: Praise you, checking em out asap, and thanks!
Mon: Thanks, hehe it wasnt exactly my intention to do it like some textbook examples, but I know that alot of artist uses colours within their shadows, so I just did that also, it was pure luck I guess that the green thing was next to the red ...And a (1?,2,3,4,5,6??) beer(s) for you for the info and tips! |
