Hello

I have been working on a fog demon beside some other projects that I am working on, This one took me around 3 hours and 20 minutes but I may have overpainted it, what do you guys think? Did I loose to much of detail?

Also, always C&C, you know I need it. Smile

Well, its getting late here so I am saying good night with this and
have a nice day and or night...hehe

You didnt lose too much detail but you did (if that makes sense). Try tightening up the lines on the torso and the face. The nose and eyes look a lil off also... BUT dont get me wrong you are probably better than i am!

hi Matt. I like where your picture is going. I especially like the way you are handling your brushes and colour technique. GOOD STUFF! I agree with CPTOONS, the only place where i see you need some work is in the anatomy. I've redone your image to vaguely illustrate structure etc. Forgive my terrible coloring and my less than splendid abs. With more time than I've put in, you can probably do a MUCH better job. Interesting choice of colour by the way. Does your creature have a personality? Perhaps you can indicate this some how by altering his expression a little.

My lighting is really off but i've tried to indicate the muscle and bone areas around the face, neck and clavical bones.

Oh. I also really like that horn but now that I scrambled with the face, it looks abit off doesn't it? woops.
Oh well...hope you find this helpful. You are learning very fast!

bluetraveller: Great overpaint. You are good. have you check your profile. I send you message in your profile.

Matthew: glad see you try and spend more time to paint. It look much better then what you been post befor. The overpaint look great. Only one critic. The mouth still crooked.

the smoothness of your coloring is pretty good, I'm going to agree with the others on that you mostly just need to work on your anatomy. this is one of your better posts of late, keep up the coloring and work on anatomy.

Matthew - Looks better already. But why don't you concentrate on one project? Right now you just practice drawing/painting sloppily. Make corrections and try to get the propertions right. That thing may not be human but just look at the overpaint...

bluetraveller - Great overpaint!

cptoonz - Wondered if you're still alive when I saw that thread...

Matthew, I think the colour palette is great. All the colours fit with each other...that's something I haven't achieved yet.

Hey there guys and girls Thank you. Smile

Mr.Manga - I know what you mean, I felt the same way too with the detail. And thank you.

cptoonz - Yeah the muscles arent that great on him, I tried to do some different with them and kind of tried to make him clawed in that area like he had been in a fight...hehe. I gotta start building muscles on myself..hehe. Thank you.

faustgfx - you had to have your revenge. Smile One thing is cool with you anyway, you got good music taste, have you heard "DEATHSTARS"?

bluetraveller - Oh My that is a good overpaint, thank you very much its showing the muscles very good. Smile I kind of got the bone on his head to flat too, how do I get that one rounder? I think your work with the overpainting shows me a lot how the muscles should look, what kind of brush did you use for them? Thanks again, this is gonna really help me out. Smile

ChiaNi - Thank you, you are so cool and helpful. Im gonna keep the paintings coming. Smile Thank you. Smile

Simoom - thanks there, The anatomy is still being worked on and the Color is getting along then, cool. Thank you Smile

AndyT - Maybe should concentrate on one project but I like to try out different art and paint styles. It is the corrections that I have problems with, if I work too long on a picture it gets kind of messy. Do you have any tips for that? How do long do you work in one shot when you paint, 2 hours or 3 or 4? I maybe work 1 and then go for a break and then get back..hehe. Thank you. Smile

tayete - Thank you, it seems like I have a hang on the colors...hehe. The anatomy is the one thing I have had most problems with but I tell you guys Im gonna make my anatomy in the picture go hardrock. Smile Thank you tayete. Smile

Thank you everyone and keep the paint alive and have a nice weekend.
Matthew

How long do I work on my images...?
Well it depends...

less then 1 hour without ref (I shouldn't post stuff like that)
about 3 hours from ref
at least 9 hours (It just never seemed right Sad )

I think I never draw more then 3 hours a day ... but that isn't necessaritly the way to go Wink
If you want to come up with your own cool demon in the fog it should take a lot longer than 9 hours because you don't have the knowledge (yet) to paint completely from imagination. You have to do some research.

That's a good tutorial! You might want to practice a little like that:
http://www.itchstudios.com/psg/tut_learn.php

And what already has been said ... try to draw (copy) mannekin figures from Figure Drawing for all it's Worth.

I know I couldn't come up with a pose myself ... you'll be able to if you practice correct anatomy first.

Believe me. It'll be more satisfying if you work less chaotic. Save different stages of your pictures.
Then you can later look where you went wrong. You can then also take a break from working on one picture and work on another one.

The early stages are the most important ones.

I don't know how to exlain that point ... (my English sucks) ... well you should take a break to look at your image every now and then.
Because while you are working you don't see if everything is correct so far (does that make sense?)
Sometimes you just need to take a looong break (>24 hours?) and look at your picture later to figure out what errors you made.

The fog and the shading are very good! (especialy the fog!!)

However, the line art/body needs a little work. Try looking at some anatomy websites/books, and you'll see what I mean.

Very nice work overall!!

Hey Matt, nice job overall on this piece. I really like the textures..and you rendered the fog pretty nicely too. I think the figure could use a more distinct light source and it wouldn't hurt to define the arms a tad more. good job! keep it up!

Compared to your other stuff, I would say you have improved a far amount with this one, Wink
I also would agree with the stuff that AndyT told you good advice.
