Ok...let's make a hypothesis.

There's this young boy, who's shy, introvert, quiet and withdrawn. He might not be that bad looking, but he has a bit small stature. Guys bully him. Girls cruelly mock him. He can't fight back. he runs away and cry like a baby at the corner. Kids laugh at him. Even in his highschool and college year, things didn't get better. People mess with him, cruel popular girls mock him and play games around him to give him a hard time. He's a quite naive man and he really can't do anything against it. Even after college, his co-worker love to give him a hard time.

Now, one day, aliens invade Earth and all the weapons and military power is useless against them. Aliens want us as the source of food, and what they are gonna do to us is to store us part by part on life support so that they can enjoy 'fresh food'.

Suddenly. that young introvert comes back with a super weapon with immense destructive power, and at this point he is the only one who can save the humanity. The president of USA asks him to defend the humanity.

"I'll answer that request only on primetime television, in PUBLIC."
"OK..."

So on the emergency broadcast...

"You are our only hope. Will you fight for us?"
"No."
"What?!"
"Since I was young I was bullied and abused by people around me. My parents did nothing about it. All the popular jock in my schools taunted and bullied me. All the hot chicks messed around with me and because if that I can't make a good relatioship with girls. My co-workers gave me hard times everyday. Why should I protect such rotten scumbags like you? Die. Die by their hands and suffer the pain."

What do you think about this kind of situation?

I would say, he would be extremly selfish is he were to destroy humanity. He would assume there are no thers out their like him and that everone is against him, (which wouldnt be the case)

There was a similar type of situation in one "Outer Limits" episode, where this young guy holds a city hostage with a fusion bomb. His only demand was to have 8(or so) people of his designation killed. These people were individuals who had bullied him and treated him unfairly in the past. So, the quesion was, should the 8 people be killed to save an entire city?

The guy in shinji69's scenario might be satiated if only a few choice individuals who embody everything he's grown to hate about the world were killed. Then he might spare the rest of the planet, or not.

To quote Marilyn Manson: "When I'm god, everyone dies!".

Truly, a highly hypothetical situation.

realise that by saving the earth, he's doing more for the reputation of small men worldwide than he could ever do by killing someone?

Being bullied is not very nice, but it doesn't make anyone so special that the world owes them - especially not their lives!

I would think the guy would be very stupid if he [b]didn't[b/] do it. Destroy the rest of the world and he just magically gets to run it on his own with nobody else there? I'm sure the aliens will be his best friends.

Wanna fly to another country? Good luck finding a pilot. Hoping to get a faster computer in 2 years? Does he know how to develop the technology? Feel like heading out for some fine ethnic cousine? I hope he knows how to cook it himself. And does he believe that the aliens wouldn't give him a hard time as well knowing he has this desctructive power? My bet is that a guy who is dumb enough to let the rest of the world be alien food, isn't smart enough to keep his magical weapon hidden for long or stay alive long enough to use it.

Interesting question though.

I'd say he's a fucking baby. get over himself. he'd kill everyone for the actions of the relative few who have mocked him, and subject them to horrors far worse than what he underwent (death, torture, dismemberment) merely as some petty revenge. I'd say he has no self worth, he can't be an adult and say, "you don't like me? you want to be an ignorant fuckwit and insult me? then go the fuck ahead, you look like the asshole for doing it, not me." instead he cries and gets pissy and somehow wants everyone to die. and even the people who were petty were just that, petty, and if you spoke to them in a sincere, adult manner, some of them would show you they have a sympathetic caring intelligent side that doesn't deserve death. hell, even if they weren't sympathetic, are you really that petty that over insults you would take away their ability to think and to BE for all eternity, that you would end their existence and the existence of all humanity for that?

Then I agree with his choice.

Think about this from his perspective. What has humanity ever done for him? Even more what has humanity ever done for the earth? Even if he wasnt aware of what his actions would do past his own motives hed be doing all other life a large favour.

With us gone the earth could repair what we have so ignorently and selfishly done.

However, if I was in his situation. I would have constructed a device that alowed the aware and enlightend people of the earth to survive. Alowing those individuals to grow and change making way for a new society, free of the ego.

Humanity can be much more then a greedy destructive race of ignorent and selfish consumers. That is, If we wake up and realize before it's to late.

Or if those of us who choose to remain close minded and unaware are eaten up be a hungry alien race =)

Well, obviously the entire world didn't pick on him, so letting 6 billion die is worse than killing 6 billion people.

In one case, you hold the power to kill everyone, or to protect everyone. Power automatically incurs responsibility; it's your job to save the world if you can. If you choose to let everyone die because the minority made your life miserable, then you are the greater aggressor than the original assailants.

I would agree with that, sign a contract with the US gonvernment to strike a deal to never pay taxes ever again and get anything I and my family wanted for the rest of our lives and next generations lives.

I say if he saved the world, then the ppl (government) owns him and all his blood generations that much.

Then who would care about the bullies? I wouldn't if I had unlimited $$ funds
