Good question but a tough one for me personally to answer. I enjoy LOTS of music - different styles, different artists. In some ways it all about mood or what tasks I might be involved with, really. Some days it's the Grateful Dead (live stuff primarily), others it's the Crystal Method, maybe David Bowie, Porcupine Tree or even Brian Eno.
The list is long and diverse:
David Bowie, The Clash, Loreena McKennitt, Thomas Dolby, Widespread Panic, Propellerheads, Brian Eno, Talking Heads, Allman Brothers Band, King Crimson, Garbage, Jimi Hendrix, WEEN, David Grisman, Jane's Addiction, Tom Petty (with or without the Heartbreakers), Sarah Brightman, JS Bach, Debussy, Miles Davis, Led Zep, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Soundtracks...
...I could keep going.
I will say that I have lately disovered Porcupine Tree; their latest release, In Absentia, is awesome.
Karl Denson's Tiny Universe is another new band to me; they're the 21st century's James Brown but with these long improv jam sessions - amazing stuff!! KDTU actually allows taping of their live shows, so if you look on the Internet you can easily find some SHN and MP3 files. _________________ - Tom Carter

When I was in High School I loved NOFX, No Doubt, Unwritten Law, The Vandals, Snuff, Dance Hall Crashers, Strung Out, Millencolin, Rancid, Lagwagon, Hi Standard, Jawbreaker, Green Day, Screeching Weasel, The Clash (RIP Joe Strummer ), Goldfinger - pretty much only punk
I still like those bands, but my tastes have broadened a bit. Wouldn't be hard! My current favorites are the Pharcyde, Eminem, Ram Trilogy, Canibus, Ray Charles, Queens Of The Stone Age, Jimmy Eat World, Jurassic 5, Korn, Missy Elliott, NTM, Redman, Sean Paul, Incubus, Aimee Mann, Shy FX, DJ Zinc, and on.
That's doesn't cover the half of it, but you don't want to get me started... I like talking about music |

it's boring, cheap, i've yet to figure out where they needed a drummer and a guitar player for it, unoriginal.. it sounds just like a "100 cliche clips of the pop music in 1980, 90 and 2000" ... _________________ "hey, wanna dance?"

Guns And Roses (might seem strange but I discovered them just 6 months ago, had only heard paradice city before that, I live in sweden remember )
The Verve
Cornelis Vreeswijk (OK he is not a band! But he is in my opinion the only musican that makes me grateful that I understand and speak swedish, all the rest of the "good" sweeds sings in english, almost all anyway.) |

Yeah Guns n Roses, that was some hardrock that.
I still listen to appetite for destruction sometimes and have been doing that since they release that album, My Michelle is one of the greatest song also.
No doubt got on the road to be fame and are just in it for the money if you ask for my opinion. |

hey matthew i see your point, but i've got to say that i took that attitude to an extreme when i was a teen - i only listened to 'uncommercial' punk bands. I realised later on that i'd been missing out on so much good music, including no doubt, who i'd dismissed as being sellouts. ok, yes they are commercialised and have changed a lot since they started out, but they still support the bands they grew up playing with (eg the Vandals, who they often tour with and recently covered on of their songs.) as for their move away from ska to dancehall/pop, well i agree it is partly due to a decline in the popularity of ska, but to me, it still looks like they're having fun playing. And as far as i'm concerned, rocksteady is a great album that was risky in the sense that it could've alienated a lot of their rock audience...

Yeah I here you gezstar and Guns n roses rocks.
One thing with No Doubt is, maybe the album is good but it feels like they have changed the sound just so the album chart for them would rise.
I mean the sound that they had on the last album would never have come up in first place if not Gwen Stefani had made that duet with EVE. Their new album sounds just like that song and that song got popular, so No Doubt sat down and agreed that they would have that sound on their new album...hmmm..
What do you think?
Have a nice day
Matthew
P.S. Maybe the list wasnt that good from me cause I actually listen to all sorts of music too, I actually like Maria Carey and others...

I love emotionally convincing music (My English sucks). Often it's music about the fate of some woman I like but whatever...!
Btw. I think No Doubt is great. I don't think their songs sound the same at all.
Too bad it's favorite bands ... favorite songs is a lot easier for me.
But my favorite band by far is a German band: Die rzte
Almost every song is a masterpiece, hehe!
I like Smokie / HIM / No Doubt / Chris de Burgh / Dire Straits

Devics - Key
Far - Job's Eyes
Metallica - The Unforgiven / Fade To Black
Sophie Zelmani - I'll Remember You
Tom McRae - Sao Paulo Rain

bling bling our album sucks so we have to remake almost ten years old song so it'd sell at least enough to buy us new mansions and sports cars and whatever.. we can't come up with anything new so we might as well circulate and make versions of all of the songs on our previous flop album... that's reload/unforgiven 2. :P _________________ "hey, wanna dance?"

True, but already Load was a shit. Justice for all is the last album once can hear from start to end, after that the evil of commerce took over the band. The black album is a middlething, don't like it though. |

oddly enough, i really liked mama said at the time... and what was that .. king nothing or something like tht. too lazy to check the names now. i got an overdoze of load 'cause i remember playing _a lot_ of quake when i bought load and one day i put the cd in while playing quake.. and never took it out from the cd drive. so i would play quake day and night long and listen to the damn cd cause i was too lazy to change it, it sounded fresh and neat then, and somehow i realized the music fits the graphics in the first episode, textures and level design.. then i went and played nothing but episode 1 dm games.. etc.
it was a sad, sad phase of my life. _________________ "hey, wanna dance?"
