Something I'm working on at the moment. It's taking forever
I still need to work out the hair, the background, the other hand/arm etc..
Crits, overpaints, suggestions etc.. please, just go ahead.

Don't be afraid to hit the blues more in the shadows, and also hit them with black in very low transparency settings. Liked it so far, and you asked for an overpaint, so here's mine.

very good, both of you. The smooth tones of the arm are very well done, and I actually like the simplicity of the hair a bit, maybe add a little more shadowing if you aren't planning on going into detail, but that's up to you. |

Thanks for the overpaint and comments, it got me thinking..
Getting skin tones to look good however, seems to be beyond me..
Feeb, you should beat ME up for trying to paint something like this..
Anyways, here's some updates..
I guess I'm not really sure what to do with the hair and background, any ideas? Which of the pics has better skin tones? (my monitor is messed up, so I'm not sure how the pics look on a fully funtional monitor..)

looks great over here on my 15" display ;]]
not just the skintones.. everything looks great,
all besides that single thin dark line under the arm..
btw, the bg on the link looks good too.(can you add some feathers flying around? see how it looks.)
but that's just me and im crazy, so... |

Interesting that you changed her hair colour. Out of the new ones, I think that I like the second one better. The head seems the right size in that one(for some reason the first one looks like the head is too big). Anyway, the major comment I have about it is that the light that is affecting the look of the arm is not really playing with the face as much os it should to give it life. If you look at the overpaint that I did there is a couple of areas giving us a reflection of the light hitting it, mainly on the cheek and the eyeball.
The hair too should be affected in a similar way by the light, but I'm not the best person to talk to when it comes to hair.
I don't like the smoothing that you did with the cloth, especially o the pillow. It doesn't have the dynamism and feel that the first draft did, ergo why I didn't overpaint it with the body.
Overall I'd have to say, keep the background the black colour if you so choose, you don't have to put anything there, plus it send the mood that it's night time. Just give some more dynamism into the cloth and pillows and finish up the rest of the bedding to the right.
And again, don't be afraid to use blue and black in the shadows in small degrees. They help give the true feeling of shadow. |
