Hey all.
My newest painting.....
This piece was meant to be finished by last Christmas but it was delayed for many reasons, a couple of which include; the whole Christmas buying frenzy, computer down time for system updates. etc. So, by the time I finally was able to sit down a finish work on it, Christmas had already passed.
Well, I figure "better late than never", so here it is for your viewing pleasure.
"Naughty or Nice"
Model: Ashlie Rhey
Background: The main (red) part of the background was painted in acrylics, then allowed to dry over night and given a red ink wash. I then splattered it with rubbing alcohol while the coat of ink was still slightly tacky. The bunch of holly up in the corner was done in colored pencil, watercolor and ink, then scanned into PS and layered over the red part of the background. Finally I painted in some smoke and what-not digitally to help "merge" the two background elements together.
Subject: Painted freehand in Photoshop on a 9x12 Wacom Intuos tablet.

And for comparison purposes, I thought I'd include my original reference for the hell of it. (Naughty bits covered of course ) I ended up working with this model long distance, so she ended up having her boyfriend shoot some photos of her for me. Problem was, even though I could "guide" her in the type of posses I wanted, etc., I still wasn't there to get things exactly right. Not only that, but the copies she ended up sending me via e-mail were absolutely tiny and totally compressed to sh!t. Anyway, enough complaining from me........
HERE is the reference I used at it's full size.
So, a month and a half and almost 200 hundred hours of work later, it's fianally finished. I hope you enjoy viewing it as much as I enjoyed creating it.
Let me know your thoughts.

looking real nice Malachi. Solid work as ever.
Only thing that bothers me is that the fluffy stuff doesn't really look like it has any form to it and resembles glow more than... fluff
I know this might be a matter of styling... but still..
Background looks real nice, though detailing in the holly looks abit rough compared to the nice and very detailed woman. It throws off the size comparison and gives the impression that the were painted seperatly and joined later in the process, as a second thought. At least imo...
Very nice piece. Just nitpicking

Soak is right though, about her face, the lower lip looks a wee bit off perspective. _________________ I touch myself only where it counts |

Excellent as is all your work. This one is not one of my favaorites though. The face appears to be a little flat and her right eye doesn't seem quite right... but, LOL, she does look quite chilled and in need of a warm hug. _________________ HonePie.com

Thanks for the comments and critiques folks.
I guess you can chalk the weirdness in this piece up to some experimentation with style on my part. Obviously, this is not the preferred direction for my work in most people's eyes. I'll be a little less extreme with the outlines and contrasting colors in my future work.
Just thought I'd try some new things out. And hey, you won't get very far as an artist unless you make an attempt to keep things fresh and varied. So I guess you could say this was a bit of an experiment, just one that took me almost two hundred hours to complete.
Anyway, thanks again for the c&c people. Very much appreciated.

what's up malachi, how's the japanese homework going
OK first thing i wanna say is, i'm blown away as always by your art. i respect the perfectionist streak in you! that said, i've got to be honest, and this isn't my favorite pic by you; i'd say 'unsatiable appetites' was more to my tastes... there's something about her face, especially the eyes, that i don't find as attractive as in your other pieces. don't get me wrong though - it's still a sweet picture.
i'm with you about being adventurous with your style. at the moment, i'm trying to switch away from the inked and coloured comic look from my last stuff to a more realistic, painted style. it's fun, but a pain in the ar$e at the same time
