Finally I have my wacom intuos 9x12 with its secksi grey stylus which i got from ebay (a steal deal!) Very Happy BUT now I am wondering, where do I start, what are some good ways to practice? I downloaded the wacom drivers and pentools (although it was only a buncha filters for photoshop if i remember when i installed it a while back :/) I am wondering though, what were some things you guys did/do to begin with a wacom tablet, what do you do to improve overall, etc... I haven't tried drawing anything, was mostly doodling with brushes in photoshop and painter since its a new gadget i know almost nothing about Smile Thanks in advance

Wwith the wacom i mean Smile Well I was just wondering about some heads up tips that may help me, since I have see so many diverse digital styles and well I guess personal style comes with time however people don't often go into great detail on how they like to draw with their wacom so I'm just a bit curious on the subject Smile

Yea really, you're going crazy looking for magical shortcuts. All this time you're spending asking for 49598589489348948489 different tutorials should be spent familiarizing yourself with it. Yeesh!

Hmm I guess it would be advisable to move this to the wip section Shocked I'm not sure if I can do that hmm, because well im posting a little wip. You see I promised my master to draw him a little logo over the holidays and ive been off and on about ideas so i thaught hmm how about a little character (that resembles him), so I started something almost like a doodle but the leg seems out of place and a buncha other things Razz Advice and critique very welcome lol (paintovers welcome even though i wont use it just so that i keep it my own work and not take credit)

gigatron,

You'll go a long way learning how to use your Wacom by reading about, then using, the controls available in the Painter 7 (or Painter 6) Brush Controls palette's sections.

Painter and Wacom tablets work beautifully together and Painter's brush controls are fascinating once you begin to understand how to use them.

In the Brush Controls palette's General section, are the most basic settings for any brush variant, then other sections fine tune settings for Size, Spacing, etc.

The Expression section is particularly important in relation to your Wacom pen as it allows you to control:

Size, Jitter, Opacity, Grain (Paper texture), Color, Angle, Resat(uration), Bleed, Flow, Feature (bristle density), Depth, Volume, and Nozzle (Image Hose) Rank,

each, in relation to our choice of...

None, Velocity, Direction, Pressure, Wheel, Tilt, Bearing, Source (Clone Source), or Random.

Depending on the brush variant, some of these options may be greyed out, or all may be available.

In combination with the Brush Controls palette's Angle section settings, the Expression section's Direction slider can control whether the brush paints in all 360 degrees, or in any lower number of degrees down to 0 degrees.

Those are only a few examples of how Painter's brushes can be controlled to work with the Wacom pen and it's a lot of fun playing with both the brushes in their default state and when adjusting brush control settings.

Also, if you open a large Canvas and begin testing the existing brush variants in their default state, you may find yourself having painted a great mountain without noticing you were doing it.. or something else terrific.

Experiment for a while and see what happens. If nothing else, you'll begin to get a feel for your Wacom tablet and pen, and for how each of the brush variants paints.

Read the Painter 7 User Guide, Chapter 4 Painting (or Painter 6 User Guide, Chapter 3 Painting) to learn more about Brush Controls and other aspects of Painter's brushes (and how they work with your Wacom tablet and pen).

SMALL TIP: click the "B" key for freehand painting and the "V" key for straight lines.

Happy Painting!

P.S. If I knew Photoshop 7 (or even owned it), I'd offer some tips there too.. sorry. Others will have lots of suggestions for you, once you get going and have some specific questions.
