OK - let's be realistic; if you look at the website and read the content, you'll discover that these outfitted vehicles aren't really intended for the public at large. SUVs are expensive to begin with, so a tricked out model won't exactly be within the reach of the masses.

Well, lets not talk about Arnold Schwarzenegger and his Hummer then Where does he come from again?
Well, you are getting to love small cars when you have to pay almost 2.50$ for one liter of fuel...

It's baseless, because it's rooted in prejudice. "Americans"? It's absurd to make a value judgment on a whole from the actions of a the minority. Just because they're popular here doesn't mean everyone wants one.
As an American I personally cannot stand SUVs - the giant ones to be specific; my problem isn't so much with the vehicles themselves but the people that don't really know how to operate them; it takes 'em 10 minutes to park the thing; they're lumbering and slow, and they drink gas like a lush drinks booze. Furthermore my wife and argue over my point that "luxury SUV" is an oxymoron; to me the concept of utilitarianism and luxury do not mix. _________________ - Tom Carter

People who buy SUVs to drive around the city are stupid. But what y'all flat-landers and foreigners have to remember, is that most of America is not urbanized. Up to age seven I lived in a town in California that would get six feet of snow, and where bears would climb through your windows. It was sixty miles to a proper grocery store. After that, I lived in Nevada, and my family's house was at 7000' in elevation and about three miles from any paved road.
A sizable portion of the American population lives in rural areas (whether they farm, mine, log, paint, or support the tourist industry), and in those areas, big trucks with fuck-off tires make sense.
When there's sixty miles of Sierra Nevada mountains between you and a grocery store in the middle of winter, you appreciate a big honkin' truck. With a grenade launcher on top.
Of course now I'm a city-slicker, so I've just got a little 2WD hatchback . . . with a loud, American subwoofer in the back, and Detroit techno in the deck.
Still loud. Still obnoxious. But I do get 50 miles to the gallon. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

BWouahahaha funny thread actualy
yeah and me being from Qubec I have a cooler in my car to stock some beer cases. everyone here drinks and drive....hell we don't even attach our seat belts....they are used as openers for the bottles. Here when people ask you how far you live you tell them "I live 5 and a half beer away"....Oh and its handy during winter, you just have to burp to defrost your windows.
of course nothing of the above is true.....since 1989 O_o;;

Thanks Balistic - for your point is the "point".
I too grew up in a rural area, and trucks and SUVs with "fuck off" tires were commonplace; so was hunting and back woods trailblazing, etc., but now I live in the metro area of Atlanta, and I am baffled at the 4 x 4s I see all over the place. I don't understand why people pay the extra for something that they will probably never, ever use. My boss recently bought a 2002 Chevy Tahoe Z71, 4 x fucking 4; this thing is a monster!! You should see the glares I get when I suggest taking it up to Rabun county for some "climbing"; that thing will never see dirt.
Don't get me wrong, 'cause Roundeye you're right too - I do want one (sans the grenade launcher though), but I just can't justify it where I live.
Off Roading in Atlanta:
"Honey - guess what - I went off road today!"
"Really??"
"Yeah - I had to pull over and wait for AAA to come change my flat!"
And Roundeye, that's a sassy snowmobile you got there.

Silly folks... people get SUV's because they don't look as cheesy as minivans. Poor grown men having to ride around in their wives minivans with a car seat in the back... its a damn shame. _________________ My Art.

Whatever. That truck's for pussies.
THIS is a car. A 1000 hp, V16. Now that's pointless. But cool. 2003 North American Auto Show. Everybody should attend one. Hot half naked women and funky cars..
Oh man, I wish I had a bigger picture of this thing. 500 horspower V10, top speed of 400 miles an hour.
You ever notice the ads for SUV's? They all market to the lazy, fat-ass city slicker so he won't feel like such a loser for sitting on his ass all day. SUV driver = loser..
God bless Detroit. |

You know, speaking of cars and Minivans in particular...
They make "vans", they make "mini-vans"... why don't they make "maxi-vans"?
You know a van for when there's a really heavy flow of traffic. |

*bump*
I just got done browsing through the Sunday edition of the Detroit News, and along with all the editorials about the North American Auto Show were editorials decrying the television ads of the Detroit Project.
What pissed me off was the fact that all of the local tv stations in the Detroit area aren't showing the ads, because they're 'controversial' . But they have no problems showing those bullshit "drugs suppport the war on terror" commercials.
Check'em out. They're clever |
