Wow, theres some unbelievable work in this threadChiani, I think youre cranking out those amazing portraits in the same amount of time it takes me to draw a single line.
The last time I tried a self-portrait I somehow made myself look Hispanic, so Im happy with these despite the suckiness. (B&W from mirror, color from photo.)

Some self portraits I've done
These two links won't post for some reason...I don't think it likes the spaces in the file names

antx: That looks damm good to me
ZippZopp: It is nice to see some other hues creeping in there.
mindcandyman: Maby it doesn't like the spaces you could try escaping the spaces which I think is %20
Ichabod15: looks good but a bit pixaly. I would sugest working in a higher resolution as you are only makeing things hard for yourself
Eire: Both thouse are very good great fabric.
Still trying to work on the lines . Sorry if its a little boring but I just keep hammering away at things till I get them right (well at least to a reasnoble standard)

i know its a really bad background....
lionel: thanks buddy! good to see you still doing these. i think maybe you could use some line weight variation in these....to make some areas darker. |

I tried to paint this about ... 5 times now. Failed miserably every single time. "Gotta learn to draw vefore you learn to paint" - lies!

good work gang...keep it strong. I'll be back. I see we got some new faces and that's good. Welcome everybody: Francis, antx, Monkey, Mindcandy, Ichabod, Eire and anybody else, I missed.
Zipp: It's coming...keep going.
Lionel: welcome back. I know all is well.
See you all through the eyes of another piece shortly. |

Lionel: thanks. I hope Ill get the shading and colors as good as in your protraits once I get to the colors.
mindcandyman: your third one I like best. I only noticed at the second time when I looked at it more intesively that there is actially some slight shading in it. Strange that this integrates so well. I also noticed that the glasses is missing a piece on the right side.
Here is my third one. I did not expect that it will be better than my 2nd one cos I thought the second one was very good already (well, for me). But now that I see the 2nd one again I actually see myself progressing.

ZippZopp: Not sure if you can vary the weight using the pencil tool very easy prehaps I should move onto a pen tool. You have good advancment in you use of color in that one. Be careful that you don't make th blues to strong but to strong is so much better than not ther at all or to week imho
Dr. Monkey: That is a great sketch. It looks like you sure can draw. I am much happier painting than drawing but whenever I paint I feel like my lack of drawing ability is really holding me back as I have dificulty placing strokes and placing features. I bet you will be a shit hot painter if you persiver .
Reakshun: Look foward to seeing a new one from you
thanks for keeping the thread alive while I have been away
antx: That is another really good sketch. I find it fun to look through my old ones and see how I amd progressing. It is funny it always seems to happen in bursts I just need to keep the faith and not get frustrated between bursts .
Working on the principal that less is more I have tried to make my lines matter a bit more. I hate drawing in painter any advice gratefully received

cg, really great one, looks really realistic!
Is it from mirror or did you take photoreference?
antx, the last one is quite great, i like the scribbeling-brushstrokes on it.
And well, long time ago since my last one, here is a new.

duracel~
thanks for the kind words..
it's from photo ref.. i'm working on one now (which i'll be posting soon) from a mirror.. (similar style and technique)
i really 'dig' your latest image, too.. interesting technique.. it's loose in rendering, yet convincing-- and done with good draftsmanship.. and i like the unfinished, suggestive background
* antx-- (great nickname.. i worked on the movie!) thanks for the words, as well.. _________________ _____________________

I like Duracels.
I have removed all the mirrors from the house for a reason. You have to look at yourself to do these things and that is why I don't do too many.
Got a haircut after i did this. 6 months of neglect. Would have gone a year but the cat wouldn't let me in.

Spooge: thats neat and unexpected

Reakshun: Really good stuff you produce. Simple strokes, but dead on. |
