My grandma back home (Latvia) heard Putin announce that US has decided to go to war on january 21. American press is totally mute about this not a peep... but the troops are moving into Persian Gulf.

http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=DTLG1OUJJAFO4CRBAEZSFEY?type=worldNews&storyID=1982806

Anyone from europe hear anything about this?

The reason there's nothing in the press is because IT'S NOT TRUE!
Countries don't announce when there going to attack.

Any reasonably intelligent person knows America is going to attack Iraq, barring some unforseen circumstances.
Hello. America's been moving troops and material for the last 6 months.
Where you been?

I think it's great how we tell Iraq, "hey! catalog your weapons, and we won't hurt you!" and Iraq goes and catalogs all their weapons, and we say, "hey! you're not telling the truth, you liars!" and we attack them anyway.

Isn't that great?

kihihihi.

"Aziz said the inspections were going well and the inspectors had not found and would not find any weapons of mass destruction."

<bush> let's announce our visit well before it's time so they will have time to hide whatever they have hide, mkay.
<aziz> there are no weapons of mass destruction in our missile silos.
<bush> i'm sure it is an outstanding plan to move our troops in to the regime months beforehand and talk about it on the television, news, papers, internet and everything. they'll never know what hit them!
<aziz> i would like to state that you are all laughable idiots, sir.
<bush> war war! oil! i dunno why but i've been told to say this so i'll say this sir; we must war for oil!!

Hahaha. Well i guess you might think that is a silly question. Why disclose... I agree.

But I'd think US would let major players know about something like this. One such being Russia... and then Putin all pissed off that he won't be able to sell his old MIGs to Iraq says something to the press...

Anyway I am just curious about any rumors from Europe. I was one of the reasonably unintelligent people who actually thought this "war" could be avoided. But thank god I know the difference between spelling there and they're.

Faust: yep.

Consider this, The only ones who ever used Nuclear Weapon in a war is The United States.

I'd be more worried about North Korea than Iraq.
Seou could get wiped out along with 37,000 American troops and drag in China *or* North Korea could get nuclear tipped missles to aim at the U.S. while G-dub puts out a missle system that doesn't work.

Krazy ass Kim Jong-il. What's up with that hair?

Has they're(for you Monkey) been a bigger disaster of a Presidency that George W?
Hopefully the economy will keep moping along to 2004, and then even the most ardent conservative flag thumper won't have the heart to vote for these guys again.

Woof - what a topic!

I am personally opposed to going to war with Iraq without a substantiating cause. If there are weapons of mass destruction and the U.N. finds them, then the issue might more easily become a global one - not a U.S. one specifically. Diplomatic measures on a global scale would in my opinion be a better measure for resolution. I am continually puzzled by Dubya's straightforward desire to go to war; however, it has been suggested that our military presence in Saudi Arabia may not last long, so the US is looking for a reason to oust Saddam in order to use the territory of Iraq for future US bases in the mideast. I don't really believe that, though. There's a lot going on that we don't know - I'm afraid.

All and all I will not support a military cause against Iraq - especially one without evidence. Show me the evidence, and I may consider support.

North Korea - yikes - those guys are a bit more unstable; I am with Elam on that one.

Amen on that shit, elam. Souh Korea seems to be attributing all of its strife now to the United States and its presence on the DPRK border, something like, "hey! fuck da police! if we hadn't no police, they wouldn't be no thang!" The DPRK and nuclear politics isn't exactly a new issue, though, and so I wouldn't see it as exactly a pressing threat. Ol' Kimmieboy may be a krazy-ass, but he's also a master brinksman; we've been teeter-tottering on the knife's edge of war with the DPRK ever since the 1950's, and nothing's come yet. If they happen to get first strike capability, then I'll be worried, but that looks to be yet a few years away, still leaving time for political maneuvering.

The thing that really worries me is a victory in Iraq, leading to an even more advanced cowboy ethic in our foreign policy. I mean, christ. Before we even finished bombing shit in Afghanistan, Bush was already talking Iraq. What happens if we kick Saddam's ass? Well, shucks. We already took down two countries. It's time for that pesky Iran! Hey! This is a lot easier than talking to those foreign currs! Look out, DPRK!

Russia is also a BIG issue in a war with Iraq. Putin is faced with a goddamned difficult decision: do you help America in its global pursuit of hegemony, or do you defy the United States and help the dictator whom owes you BILLIONS of dollars? Either way, Putin is guaranteed to be a lot more rigid in future relations with the United States, which is dangerous to both countries. Russia needs America's economic support, America needs Russia's global support. We could very well see a Cold War II in the next 20 years if America ain't too careful.

Cause he's never been in one. Snortin' coke drinkin' beer during the Vietnam war. None of the administration has been in war, or in the military for that matter, except for Colin Powell, and he's the most reasonable of the bunch, because he knows what's up.

I think it's less that Kim is a master brinksman than the Bush administration being utterly inept at foreign policy and domestic policy for that matter. No ideas.

Putting Iran and North Korea in the "Axis of Evil" was a terrible idea.
No doubt North Korea is dangerous, but given that nobody in that region, including China, wants nukes on the Korean Pennisula, I think that situation could have been handled in a subtler fashion.
And Iran is probably the most under-reported story in the U.S.
Something like 50% of the population is 25 and yearns for democracy and change. I believe you nuture and encourge such attitudes.

Bush was talking about a 'regime change' in Iraq during his *election* campaign. Those guys just took the opportunity that 9/11 provided to lump in Iran and North Korea.

I do give the Bush administration credit in Afghanistan. Not for any military victory, which I think was a given, but for what they've done afterward. Troops now conduct humanitarian missions and repair the infastructure of the country.
I think that's the most important thing in Iraq. What happens afterwards.
Iraqis are a highly sophisticated and educated people. If America truly promotes democracy and get's it's head out of her ass about Israel and Palestine, then I'm optimistic.

I read somewhere where Russia is set to become the largest exporter of oil, surpassing Saudi Arabia. And Iraq just canelled a multi-billion dollar oil deal with Russia over it's support of the U.N. security council vote.
Poo-tin is a slick cat. I think he knows what he's doing.

Oh yeah. That's meritous. Gossip on a web forum.
U.N. inspectors have until Jan. 27th to report their findings.
That's fact. I think it would be highly unlikely anything would happen before then, unless it becomes obvious that the inspectors haven't found anything

There's no merit in rumor.
I heard that the U.S. moon landings were fake, so have a lot of people.
Simply because alot of people have heard that doesn't make it any more truthful. Isn't that obvious? Proof is what matters.

And yes, I am crazy. and it's not "you are wrong no matter what", it's "Don't be a dumbass."

Don't worry, Don't worry, I and the other four or five people in the world that even matter at all haven't been shot...so go back about your business and quit fretting, the world is safe aslong as we are here. I don't think I need to go into who those select individuals are, it should be quite clear.

I don't have a doubt that there will be a war with iraq. And there should be. The God given president of the united states should defend that what is the cornerstone of the american democracy, the oil companies, against the terrorism of high oil prices.

Ah oil...

I continually write and herald to my Congressman the benefits of fuel cell technology for automobiles. I am tired of the mess we're in, and it's all about dependency on oil. If fuel cell cars were readily available you can bet I'd own one.

As an American to other Americans you should do the same; contact your Congressman/woman, and tell them how you feel about it. Let them know that any attempt to stifle fuel cell technology for cars will have an affect when you vote next.
