If you have any other in mind. Can you tell me. I'm tryign to scan artwork at the same reso or whatever as like feng or spinfinger does. Thanks alot and sorry to bother you. Very Happy

edit- and whats a good resolution? The Canon LIDE20 Scanner ($99cnd) has 600 x 1200 dpi. Bad? Or should I just get HP Scanjet 3500C Flatbed ($149) at a res of 1200 X 1200 DPI. Very Happy

I personally prefer HP scanners but MAKE SURE YOU ACTUALLY LOOK AT THE ONE YOU WANT TO BUY FIRST.

I say this for one reason-

Some HP model scanners have an "inset" into the scanner. The glass is set into the scanner about 3/8" from the surface. This effectively makes scanning something larger than the bed size impossible. You can't scan an 11x17 document in parts as you'd have to literally bend it to get it to lay flat in there. It makes scanning something done on large illustration board impossible. Get what I mean?

I learned this the hard way. Confused

My HP scanner survived for a day before it broke. I got a new one though since it was under warranty. Also, HP scanners scan SLOW. So if you're going to scan multiple documents, you're probably better off with a Canon.

What DPI you'll need will also be dependant on what you're going to scan, and if you're going to print it then at what size. If you'll only scan for example pencilled work you don't want to enlarge for printing, you won't need a high DPI. For the basic scanning of drawings for showing online, pretty much any scanner will do. But, if you're going to make prints of scanned work, it's a whole different thing.

I just bought the HP sj 3500c and was a bit dissapointed to find that it had the glass inset down about 5 mm like Jimmyjimjim mentioned. So I think I'll actually return it to the store and buy the canon D1250U2 instead. It's a little more expensive but it has a flat top.

Here's a little quote from the canon description:
Quote:

Canon's advanced Z-Lid expansion top lifts vertically and lies flat to create the space needed for bulky items, such as books or magazines, to ensure clear, high-quality scans.
