So, I install window's xp earlier today after receiving as an early Christmas gift.

Well, on top of deleting 100's of important e-mails from my Outlook Express and completely fucking up all kinds of files and short-cuts......

IT WON'T DRIVE MY HP OFFICE JET (including my much needed scanner) or MY PRECIOUS WACOM TABLET!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've tried deleting there programs completely and reinstalling the drivers for them but nothing's working. I seriously need some help here folks, my life is on absolute pause until I can get my wacom and scanner working again.

Please, if there's any tech gurus or just plain xp knowledgeable people out there, do a mug a HUGE Christmas favor and help me. PLEASE!

I'm going nutz......

Happy Holidays,
Malachi

http://www.wacom.com/productsupport/windows.cfm
Wacom's driver download page for windows users.

http://productfinder.support.hp.com/tps/ProductFinder?h_lang=en&h_tool=software&h_query=office+jet

HP's Driver download page for various models of the HP office Jet.

Updating drivers is usually a good approach to solving such problems.

I don't know what brand your scanner is so i couldn't provide a driver page for that one. Hope it helps you out.

Most drivers now have an XP version, if for some reason there is no XP specific driver ,download the windows2000 ones.

Malachi... WOW... so sorry to hear you're having problems. I know what it's like not to access to what you love to do... but hang in there. Get the right drivers as described above... XP is definitely better than 98. When I had 98, I had to reboot 3 or 4, 5 times a day. With XP, it's once a week... and sometimes once a week only because it seems like a good idea rather than a need... Smile Hang in there and Merry Christmas...

Pray for world peace...

I dunno about you guys but I never upgrade my OS. It always causes some random problem. Don't forget clean installs are damn SAXXXY (XMAS word of the day).

Format's always the way to go, theres actually a preferred order of installations if I can remember... hold up.

Clean Install OS
Download/Install Service Packs
Upgrade Drivers
Install Software

It's something like that methinks. Oh yeah, If I haven't said so already... HAPPY/MERRY XMAS/CHANUKAH/KWANZAA Very Happy.

Thanks for the help folks.

I'm going to go try and update my drivers, but I already know I'm going to have a problem with the tablet because I've completely uninstalled it, but it won't remove itself from the program list because it says it's "uninstall" file isn't there. Which it's not, but now I can't get that damn listing out of my program files and it won't let me install a new tablet driver while it thinks the old one is there. So I honestly don't know what I'm going to do about the Intuos problem. If I don't figure it out today. I'll just have to get on the phone with Wacom customer service and see if they can help me out.

However, novacaptain pointed me to the perfect spot for what I need to upgrade the driver for my all in one printer. It tells me step by step what to do, so that's some good news amongst the crappy news..... And hey, it's Christmas everyone! And that's always cool.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Smile

Thanks again for the help, I'm sure I'll probably be back here with more questions before this whole ordeal is through.

Take it easy,
Malachi

Malachi, installing a new operating system OVER a previous one is never a great idea (in my experience). I'd honestly suggest formatting your drive completely and installing XP (assuming you don't only have the upgrade version? :/)

Upon completion, run the Windows Update feature to get all the security fixes/driver updates/etc. from Microsoft, and from there install the newest drivers of any hardware the registers conflicts, or is a peripheral (Wacom, printer, etc..) by downloading them from their respective websites.

That's my advice. Always works for me. Good luck, man.

have to agree with Intuos, all the years of building/updating PC's has taught me never to update an OS, but to Install a Fresh OS..

but IMO, XP sux as a working platform, 2K is much more refined for working enviroment, i only have XP on my Games Sys, and that gets re-formatted once a month anyway...

THANKS GUYS! Very Happy

Especially you, novacaptain. Those drivers you pointed me to are now up and running and so is my disabled hardware. You my friend, are a life saver. Smile

Now if I could just find a new driver for my Intel web-cam........ Wink Wink

Thanks again for all the help and support folks, you all really came through for me and I can't thank you enough.

Take it easy and enjoy the rest of your holidays. Smile
