Aaaasdfasdf! This film is soooooooooo awesome! it is a lot better than part 1. They gave the story some tweaks and I know that there will be loads of moans and groans from all those Tolkien nerds because of that. Well, i read the books and I admit that i was kinda irritated at times when watching the movie. But nonetheless it turned out REALLY great!!!! The thing I was hoping for the whole movie will come on part 3 tho. But that makes me only more excited about the final movie. I really can't wait!! Damn 365 days to go.
Well, I don't want to spoil the fun and tell too much, but the fights are spectacular and gollum is the best animated figure I've seen in a big movie.
Good job Loki! Everybody did a great job on this one. But I didn't recognise the sijun.com tree. Damnit! =D
One minor flaw is that treebeard is kinda skinny. But it isn't that bad once you overcome the first impression. =)
Let me know what you think about it.
And it's 5am so go easy on my grammar. =) |

As a bit of a Tolkien purist I was a tad dissapointed at some of the things in the movie. ALOT of things have altered from the books in this one.. even more so than in FotR. And as with FotR, I think I need a couple of viewings to get used to all the changes and really start loving the movie. I think the ones who havn't read the books will like this the most at first viewing.
It's not like I think it's bad though. I give it a 7/10 at the first viewing.. it'll probably become a 8/10 after a couple of more viewings and finally a 10/10 when the special edition comes out
*spoiler* A last note. I know some people on this forum have been working on Gollum. To you I must say.. Congratulations on your AMAZING WORK! This might be the first CGI character that actually outpreformes the real actors. It's not so much how he looks real but it's how he feels real. And just as Tolkien described him as well \o/ He's the star of the movie. |

Slept a couple of hours after I saw it, and now I'm at work..
But I gotta say that this is one of the best movies I've ever seen, the movie didn't have one single dead point, atleast not for me ;)
All that was computer made was fantastic.. You know when you get this good feeling when watching something that is made so great that you just sit stunned. You often do that when you see short stuff made by som geniuses.. Well, I sat like that through the whole movie.
Can't wait till number three :) _________________ - the world has turned and left me here -

First of all, I haven't read the book.
Gollum *cough* is REALLY well done, and I pity him sooo much. Excellent. Another sole reason to watch the film.
This has to be said REALLY loudly:
The battles are grand and very well excecuted visually, but also spacially.
It is as if this chapter becomes more epic that the first, it get's a little less personal to me......It will propably get better in this regard with more viewings.
The homour is way out of line even though I laughed, it was just silly. Can't we have a great battle without some jackass standing around acting like a complete fool to loosen the tension in the audience?!
As I haven't read the book you might disagreee with me on the next one.
Treebeard? What the hell was that? Great idea, ancient treesherds roaming the vast forests and all, but why did he have to look so cute? It reminded me of 'the neverending story' and the rock-eater. Funny and cuddly, but a little too much on the soft side for me.
The Ringwraiths......well, not scary anymore. Ofcourse if they where to have as big a part to play in this movie the gallery of characters and entities would be pretty cluttered. So it makes sence not to gove them as much screentime. But still, they aren't scary in my view of things.
I've bitched alot now. Jeez I sound like a mad old fart.......... It was still a great film, and I can't wait to see it again, and come to a better understanding regarding all the new characters, environments and plot twists.
^ Complete blabber.

I found the jokes were very funny and there is no jar jar binks syndrom aywhere in the movie. None of the funny parts were pathetic or inapropriate. I really liked them. |

the ONLY thing I didn't like in the movie is...they didn't make Gandalf do any cool wizard tricks x_x
they made him look like more of a fighter O_o;
I guess thats just the problem of our generation...we are hardly ever impressed anymore..
Gandalf: Whats this behind your ear Frodo?......Look its a penny!
Frodo: Wow! do it again Gandalf!
Gandalf: Oh hey look now I got your nose <wiggles his thumb at Frodo>
Frodo: thats amazing Gandalf! you are truely the greatest white wizard ever!
.... <grabs his coat and gets the fuck out of the theatre> _________________ I touch myself only where it counts |

Man I went in with the book still fresh in mind. I had re-read it recently just because I needed something to get rid of that itch to see the movie.
That had to have been the biggest mistake I could have made, my first viewing of this movie on opening day left me rather cold. I was constantly wondering what happened to this scene, or how that happened, or why wasn't this there and so on and so fourth until I completely disengaged from the movie .
I saw it again Thursday and this was the movie I was expecting. The fact that I now knew what was going to happen, and no longer played the how faithful is it to the book game I was left with only Peter Jacksons Two Towers and it was wonderful.
If anybody else felt the same as I after a first viewing, the second may end up doing the trick for you . |

SOoOoOO, I saw it at the enormous theatre in Richmond last night and as a full time film student and compulsive obsessor over movies all I have to say is
I have only read the hobbit, I have all of the books at home but have not picked up fotr or tt or roftk because of one reason, the differences. The things is that most people have read the books which are a treasure on their own but when it comes down to bringing them into a screen adaptation over the course of nine hours and change it is as difficult as getting that ring to mount doom. I have almost picked them up a couple times but I know that if I hold off, see the movies, then read the books I will be able to see why the director made the choices he did, what the pace was like etc. but it also acts as a giant bonus material set because the books always go so much deeper then the movie has time to.
As far as the movie goes I don't think I have ever felt so small in a movie theatre. Jackson did an AMAZING job at actually brining in the scope of size to this entire thing. You feel as though this is bigger then any of us or the characters that it will take every last breathing soul in middle earth to actually put up some type of fight against the dark lord himself. I NEED TO GO TO NEW ZEALAND lol.
I agree that I would have loved to see some more Gandalf hand you your ass with a white pole type magic but I am sure we will all get that in the third episode. Elija did an amazing job yet again with Frodo and the character shifts were perfect because it made Frodo less personable and open as the ring took over him piece by piece just as this episode was less personal and more directed to the actual story that encompasses all of the characters.
Gollum was just stunning, we all knew he was fake, we all knew he was countless hours of guys just sitting infront of monitors while living off coffee and adrenaline but the skill of Andy Serkis and his characterization of that little guy was simply perfect. He made gollum who he is and must have been such a point of inspiration for the artists.
Aragorn was again consistant and solid as well as Legolas and the affectionate comedy between him and Gimli. Everything was just enough to keep us tied in but not too much where it began to snare the story and create those "dead points" that were mentioned. Oh, the ENTS...I don't have the words.
And the beautiful part of this is that when I saw it last night some how the print was scratched with these three verticle lines that you noticed at the start then totally forgot about within ten minutes of the film. So it finished and as we are leaving we all get free passes to see it again !!! So...You just paid me to come see The Two Towers....uh....thanks?!
The only thing I would have liked to have seen is a little more depth into the progression of the dark lord himself and the bad bad man known as Saruman. The only little wish I have is to see Glandriel and Gandalf side by side baking a couple whoopass pies, those two combined would be a force to be reckoned with, I don't know what happens in rotk so if that is possible or not I am still in hopes. And, was it just me or the trip to Gondor with Frodo, Sam, Gollum and the men a bit quick? Ia m sure there will be more in the dvd release with EXTRA footege which I can't even begin to look forward to or I will go insane. |

Well, I will sit tight until the third movie is available as special edition on dvd... Then some friends of me and myself will have a day full of wonder, battle and magic in a private little theatre near Frankfurt. This whole day will cost a fortune but I think its worth waiting.
Tolkien said that his books should never be filmed. Partially I think he was right, you cannot display a whole world in just a few hours. On the other hand: The films made Tolkien popular again Who cares that he has written other wonderful poems and stories, too...
I recommend this book if you have children...
What a pity that those people who make the big money out of middleearth have never read the books... Most of the actors have never laid an eye upon the Lord of the Rings before the actual shooting (except for Christopher Lee). _________________ www.alientechnologies.de

I think Jackson did... And Lee... About the others there was a nice documentation on TV where they asked the actors about the books. Cristopher Lee himself pointed out that he was really disappointed by the fact that his colleagues just read the books for the movie...
Honestly I just wanted to kick the TV-Set when Liv Tyler said that she read the books just during the shootings and "is now a biiiiig fan of Tolkeeeen"
Well, I am no actor (thank god for that) but as far as I know they have to think like the person they try to display. But hey, perhaps they are doing a good job. I will know in a year or so _________________ www.alientechnologies.de

I enjoyed it. although I was bit disappointed as well.
I didn't like how it got less personal. And somehow the uruk-hai seemed less intimidating. Probably because the white hand on their faces made them look all "tribal warrior" in the first movie.
The ents were kind of stupid. They where too cute and how they were basically just humans made out of branches seemed very cliche to me in terms of character design.
But still..*sighs* I had a very nice evening and ran to the store to get the first movie the day afterwards. hehe |
