EDIT: I made a mistake. This song is actually a Steve Vai song. The reason why some people(including me) thought it was a Zappa song is because Steve Vai was employed by Zappa as a guitarist during the time he wrote the album which contained this song, and the scathing humor and musical style was so similar.

BTW, if any of you would be so kind to put up a mirror server, that'd be ultra cool, since I have a limit on my bandwidth.

Ensemble Ambrosius - The Zappa Album

a bunch of finnish academy musician freaks playing zappa songs in baroque style...

fun album, albeit slightly fucked up and sick....

Holy shit dude, you are alive?!

Where the hell have you been?

I've been listening to some Liquid Tension, Dream Theater, some Metal stuff that Briareos recommended like Dimmu Borgir and Stratovarius. I suspect you're fan of those too?

me? i've been sitting at home isolating myself from all and everything and being grim on one irc channel.

hmmh i have pretty much every dream theater release, and the first LTE album. used to be a huge dream theater fan.. now, shrug. i got over it :P a change of seasons i still like though. especially the achilles' last stand / the rover cover. same for stratovarius. i have all the stuff up till destiny.. really liked hte stuff for a few years.. but now i haven't touched any of it in a year or so. episode's my favorite from them.

dimmu's good for giggles..

as of late my favourite albums would probably be.. hmmh.

Isis - Oceanic (moody whatever easy listening moody mood mood metal stuff)
In Flames - Reroute to Remain (in flames going pop, i love it)
Killswitch Engage - Alive Or Just Breathing (fast paced, energy filled sledgehammermetal. incredible production. drums sound like tank blasts, guitars eat your grandmother for breakfast, vocalist pulls an impressive performance too..)
Soilwork - Natural Born Chaos (soilwork going pop, love it too)
Rotten Sound - Murderworks (softgrind)
Botch - An Anthology of Dead Ends (botchmathcore)
SUPERJOINT RITUAL! phil anselmo goes 80's trash metal, woot.

that is, those are relatively new albums.

most listened albums as of late..

Botch - We Are The Romans (botchmathcore)
Dillinger Escape Plan - Calculating Infinity (hc. tricks and twists. i love the singer, his screaming is just so.. raw.)
Dj Shadow - Pre-emptive strike, Endtroducing, The Private Press (acid jazz/funk/jazz/blues/whatever the hell you call that, addictive.. been listening to endtroducing alot since 1998 now)
Lacuna Coil - Unleashed Memories (emometal? male singer sux, female singer rox, alot, nice little easy tunes)
Meshuggah - Destroy Erase Improve, Chaosphere (math/hc/death/power)
Sol Niger Within 3.33 (that one meshuggah guy going all jazzmetal, rocks illegally much)

... faith no more, sepultura, tarmvred, converter, dryft, gridlock, tiamat, keuhkot, strapping young lad, yaddadadda...

etc. could write a big list of bands and albums here but it'd probably be for nothing. the botch/dillinger/etc. fanbase on this forum is probably extremely nonexistant by amount and the rest would go "you call this music?" so shrug.

oh, forgot to mention, i heard the promo thingy of the new Ministry album. really liked that, too. it was a positive change to the darksideofthespoon-vein which got boring at the third listen. too bad the sound quality of the promo is ass... listened to it in mp3's. nice songwriting in it, too, for a change. stomping beats, big guitars, Al's voice works nicely in it.. even though he sounds like a suffocating scarecrow on methspeedcocainecrack.. which is probably what he was on during the recording. hrm.

ooh, and a special notice goes to ZOVIET*FRANCE / Rapoon / Horizon222.. if i tried to describe how much ass they kick and what the stuff is like and what it's about it'd end up in this forum turning into a novel.. will have to do that later. way too tired to write coherent and enlightening stuff right now.

http://pretentious.net/zoviet/index2.htm
http://media.hyperreal.org/zines/est/intervs/zovfr_fn.html

if you long for adventure and danger, go and try to dig up websites about them.. they're pretty damn far and in between.

recommended albums would be Mohnomishe, Darker By Light, The Fires Of The Borderlands, Decriminalization of Country Music, Collusion....... mohnomishe and darker by light definitely. and Garista if you're feeling psychotic.

Ah Zappa...the single most thing that stands out in my mind about Frank Zappa was his ability to actually compose music. He didn't just hum a few bars - he wrotes thousands and for every compliment! Alas, for his loss is great; who knows what else he would've created?

Not a problem. Not like this thread was discussing the meaning of life or some other highbrow intellectual bullshit.

Of course, some Zappa fans might argue that point, but we all know Zappa fans are freaks anyway.
