Thanks Bob! It's been interesting starting to use Macs. I've been learning a few tricks along the way. I haven't read any material yet, I've just been learning by trial and error. Just like how I learned to use PCs (at first anyway). It's a fun process.
Do most Geek mac users buy new mouses (mice?) too? _________________ Mike

Just my 2 cents from someone who's been there..
I've had dual monitors for quite some time. I've had an AGP Card and a PCI Vid Card.
This worked well for Art and such but my gaming and anything processor intensive was horrid, this was because of all the wasted resources and power used to power the second card that I wasn't even concerned with for the second card.
When I purchased my dual monitor AGP card this all changed it was all supported on one card and the resources were already allocated to the one card not duplicating the effort.
I'd always suggest the least hardware installed to get the best solution even if it's a little more expensive. I'm an avid gamer as well as an artist so, I was needing every ounce of power from my Geforce4.. ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

JFreak:
You can do an instant screengrab from a Mac at any time by pressing (Cmd+Shift+3) - it makes a little camera sound and places an image file in your main hard drive directory. (And I have no idea why (Cmd+Shift+3) seems to stand for screengrab, but it just does - maybe they figured that it was a combination that wouldn't be utilised in any programs to avoid command conflits)
And the mice: On my main machine I don't have a mouse as I use the Wacom for all functions to keep my Wacom-screen-coordination sharp - I'm about to buy a Microsoft 3-button mouse though, as I'm looking at getting into 3D soon as well.
The one button wierd Mac mice are somewhat limiting, but it serves me fine for when I'm running around at different locations with a Powerbook. All of the other Mac users in the building are perfectly content with Apple's new optical 1-button mouse for all their work (though I'm trying to convert a few of the artists to Wacom)
Anyway, I hope that helps. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) _________________ Rowan Dodds

Just a question:
when using the dual output feature of Geforce & ATI cards, are you able to set 2 different resolutions on the 2 monitors or has it to be the same res on both screens?
Just because max res on a 15' LCD is always 1024x768 & I'd like to continue using 1280*1024 on my main CRT monitor... _________________ www.ELLioTEK.net PLAY BOUNTY KILLERS! |

This thread is dead. It would have made more sense to start a new thread and ask the same question.
I use a dual monitor setup on my ATI card, and each monitor has a different resolution. _________________ http://prettydiff.com/ |

My question is related to this thread's topic + you read it + you answered it. So, this thread's not dead.
Anyway, thanx for the answer. _________________ www.ELLioTEK.net PLAY BOUNTY KILLERS! |

if someone is still reading this, here might be some useful tip for the stretching of the wacom. i haven't read all the comments yet, but thought i'd mention this:
i first was disturbed by the wacom spreading it's active area along two screens. so i placed a cd on it, and traced circles. after some adjustments to the active area of the wacom, and making a perfect circle, i know everything is alright. i copy the coordinates of the active area so i can put it back whenever i want to.
still the wacom is less comfy to work on(because of the smaller area). and i do like my wacom to cover both screens, or i get confused not to be able to reach the other screen. just something to get used to.
i don't use the second screen much anyway, mine is old, 15", noisy, so so colors. but at times it does come in handy. when i do use it i place a ref pic on the second, and paint one the first.
i'm using a gf4 4600 and it's great. in the past, i used 2 cards(rivaTNT16mb and radeon32mb, and that worked fine too _________________ talent is overrated. |

If you have consistant performance problems when gaming with dual monitors, its trivial to disable the desktop on the second monitor. It's not a terribly elegant solution but it works. |
