This is the big question. Is art for me? I know there are tons of people here who's career is in visual art (in one form or another). How do you know if art is it?
How do you feel about art? How much do you appreciate it? Do you just draw for the satisfaction of completing an admirable end product? Or do you need more than that? WHAT DRIVES YOU ON?
Right now I'm worried if I'm enthusiastic enough to go on for the rest of my life as an artist. It seems like the reason I'm going into this field is because its what I'm best at. But do I enjoy it ENOUGH. Am i supposed to feel a helpless urge to draw or i'll explode? or is creating art just to impress myself and seeing if i can handle the challege good enough? |

i draw, because it is the only thing that keeps me going on.
the worse i feel, the more ideas i have, and the more i paint. i don't know where i would be, if i wouldn't be able to express myself that way.
actually it doesn't really help me that much in points of dealing with my fucked up life, but at least it provides me distraction and gives me the feeling of doing something productive, of achieving something, even if it's not much and matters only for myself.
i paint, because i have to. it's kind of a therapy. not a really helpful one, but the only one that i can do.
actually that's not really helpful for your situation, but i think both things matter: if you're good at something(or willing to learn it), and then if you like it. it might turn out very frustrating to spend all your time doing something you really like, but are just not good at. same for the other way 'round. try to find a thing, that is a good middle way of fun and skill.
at least that's my opinion about that. at the moment. _________________

Hello
Its amazing to me how people can think the same way with being hundreds of miles from eachother. I feel the same as haohmaru and this art thing is the only thing right now that makes me feel good.
And also for me it is the feeling to make some art and then try to make it better, that is a cool thing.
A big thank you to all Sijun Members, it relly helps to display art in here to get better.
Some thoughts from
Matthew
have a nice day |

I know what you mean Mitz, cause I feel the same way sometimes.
Sometimes I think: yes that's it, that's the way to go.
Then suddenly I think different because I produced a bad pic. ( most cases )
This feeling change every day and it drives me crazy - really! I hate it...
BUT: I have been drawing since I can remember so I think, well,... why stop?
What keeps me drawing: I look at the art of all the great artists in this forum and just think, I wanna be as good as they are, and I will do everything to get this quality!
I just like it ( most of the time ) and that's very important, much more important then producing excellent art.
Do it for fun. If you don't you won't suceed.
Ah, and you don't have to be an artist for your whole life.
You can do different things also. ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

I've been doing it in one form or another for 45 or 50 years. Can't imagine not doing it... I don't think much about doing art, but I think a lot about what I'm doing with my art. _________________ HonePie.com

i think flat snapped, from the google thread. or is he always like this
im also in the same boat..anyways i draw because i like the process and result...even tho most of the time the results tick me off. Yeah like max said earlier, looking at other artist's art really drives me on and this forum is a huge plus.
i find that i have to force myself to draw... well to start off with a picture. and then the helpless urge sometimes develops from there and i absolutely HAVE to finish the drawing. ive gone on 3 months without touching a pencil, but have also spent countless hours per session..
if what i do is really abnormal and will lead to a path of destruction, please advice me so i dont continue with my ways..hopefully i end up alright. |

I guess everyone has a good point.
I've kind of not been putting any thought into why I'm drawing or whatever. And it's better that way. Once you realize the situation you're in, you're detached from doing things instinctively... and if instinctively you WANT to draw, thats the way it should be. And it IS the great artists that inspire me to keep going. I guess my dream would be working along side them.
The one problem for me is I realize the flaws of my art because I compare to those better than me. I get discouraged and and I never keep my work. Quite often you draw something you like..and the next week you hate it. I don't think i've ever done something i truly like. |

When I first posted a picture in a Forum I felt totally useless at doing art after the critiques that was given, but now I welcome the critiques and think that they helps in any way.
It is sometimes funny when painting, you dont always seem to see the errors in the picture because the eye adjust the faults and then when you look back at it later it totally looks screwed up.
To refer to your last sentence Mitz, Isnt that a good thing? Isnt that what all artists think.
.....hmmm....Im getting tired here.....zzzzz.....
take it easy

I'm one of those Renaissance type thinkers. I love drawing and painting, but I also love photography, music, literature, film, and I try to do all of them at a professionally level, or try hard to at least.
Drawing and painting is definitely not what I love the most though. If I had to pick, it'd be film, literature, or music. |
