This is a page of a comic I'm doing the art for called Chimera to be published by CrossGen Comics. It's the introduction of a villian who has plummeted to a snowy plain from orbit, crawling out of the smoking crater. I'm pretty proud of it, so I thought I'd see what people thought. I'm using a digitally painted style, keeping line art as an element. Any comments would be apprecited.

daaaaaaamn! i'm really liking this. there's a great sense of drama, and the character has real volume. did you do the pencils, inks & colours?
keep it up - i may have to make a trip down to my comics shop in the near future ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

I really like the colors on this one. The yellow is just enough to draw attention to the light source but doesn't detract from the overall "cool" feel of the blues.
Nice character work, too. |

If all comics looked like this i wouldn't have ever stopped buying them.
I relly like all 3 images. Great lines, great anatomy. Very good color. You rule. |

v nice
just a little note about the file size, you could set the compression on 3 taking the size to 111k and still keep 95% of the colour detail (save on ur bandwidth ) |

Gotta ask you something, man, 'cos I'm a lill' bit confused at the moment... Just to make that clear, Brando - are you that guy who did this picture?
It's really one of my all-time-favorites... an evergreen, to speak so. If you're that Brando you shall know you were the reason for me to start with drawing at all. I remember exactly when I got my first internet connection and was checkin' I-Net-Comixx or whatever that site was... I found the link to a HP of a guy named Chris there who drew superheros and stuff like that and I decided to drop him a line like "wow your stuff is class A, dude, you should take a big step into the big biz with those mad skills of yours". He wrote back telling me he'd appreciate that but he wouldn't be good enough for the big biz which the picture he attached to his mail would clearly illustrate. I took a look at it... and BANG! INSTANT FAVORITE!!1
OK when I'm looking at it today I'm not completely blown away like I was back then since I've seen soooooooo dang much it's completely impossible to say there was anything "to rule 'em all", if you know what I'm talking about. It's still a great, great piece tho.
Talking of that, the "Chimera" pic is some eye candy too. Have you been inspired by the fantastic (fantastic by any means possible) Warcraft 3-Trailers? _________________

Love the composition and your use of colour. My only qualm is with the fingers on his/her/its right hand. They seam a little... odd. But that's neither here no there, given the stage you're at with the piece ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ "Pass me the banjo, that one there, good lad." -Socrates |

Thanks guys. I appreciate the comments. [666]Flat, the Wolverine pin-up is indeed one of mine (wierd how both of these pieces are crouched big guys in snow. I did it while working on the X-Men books for Marvel for a "Black and White" issue that never saw print. As for me being the reason you started drawing, I am very flattered and while I'm sure you were interested in drawing before ever seeing that piece, every inspiration helps. Seeing Craig Mullens' work here along other great artists has inspired me to use color much more, so it's a common experience for any artist to derive inspiration from other artists. BOb - I will have to experiment with compression. I always hesitate compressing below "good" quality as I can see the pixels degrade so much.

Brandon if you can get a hold of it using Macromedia Fireworks as an image compressor is the best ...they use the very best compression algorithms while maintianing the best quality in my exprience
We did this survey thingy back a ways maybe more then a year ago and about 85 % of the people who use the board are on broadband so I dont think the size is a problem ..well except those 10-15 % in dial up ![Rolling Eyes](images/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif) |

Very impressive; the colors work wonderfully. I particularly like the pale, faded hues in the crater/smoke. Nice. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

Nicely done.
However, the hand he's leaning on in the last panel doesn't look right to me. Too flat perhaps, maybe having the tips of his fingers grip the snow a little more would give more of a feeling that he's actually "leaning" on that hand to get out of the crater. I know, nit-picky, but I figured it might help you make your hands more believable in future pieces.
Again, nicely done.

Wow, if all the pages in the comicbook looks as good as this one, I will definitely buy a copy, let us know when it is out If all comic books looked as good as this, I would be a poor man from buying them all. Very cool
