Socar MYLES: Nice to see you taking part in this thread. Would be nice if you used a bigger brush as the thing I love about you backgrounds are the brush strokes and it would be nice for them to show through in your portrats.

ZippZopp: That last one is light years ahead of you first ones you have come a loooong way in a short time.

ChiaNi: Glad you are well again

bluetraveller: red x :/

Rekz, MoleculeMan: Yea It definatly is Kevin Smith !!

Am in a rush so here is a quick 10 min sketch.

I have posted a detail just for you, Lionel, so you can see my brushstrokes. Smile I think the smallest brush I used on this painting was 27 pixels, except for on the little detailed bits like the lace and the earring and eyebrows and stuff.

That detail is just under half working size.

Lionel. I picked up my wacom for the first time after taking a look at your work. I love the painterly effect you've finally achieved. I've been lurking here for a long time and finally stole this account from my brother.
Here's my picture again minus the red shirt. I've got alot of work to do on the blue sweater but at least the face is fixed. yay!

ChiaNi, your health issues sure have spawned some beautiful creations, so maybe it was worth it Wink

You asked about Building brushes in Painter. On your "Brushes" palette, choose "Brush" and "Auto-Build Brush". That should fix it.

It has been very, very long since I've posted here.

I have this problem with attempting to draw every couple days and then giving up after 40 minutes. I can't produce anything I am satisfied with. Oh well, here's my "self portrait" that really doesn't look anything like me....

TimDavis: Well done on you first one Smile I hope you enjoyed doing it.

Rekz: A different celb every day Smile

Rimoni: Floating heads are so the way to go Smile

bluetraveller: I am glad you like them I hope you stick around and do some more sp as I really feel they help. Just look at how much I have improved Smile. I am used to oil paint so I guess whenever I paint I try to get a similar effect since that is what I am used to.

Socar: Wow you work really big. I don't think painter on my computer would ever be able to cope with thouse sort of resolutions Smile. I have always been a fan of painters like lucian freud and brush stroke mean a lot to me. It always seems a shame when the are hidden Smile. Nice eye btw Smile

ChiaNi: You don't look so well :/. Take lots of Vitamin C and get well soon

ZippZopp: That is a cool expression

eyewoo,Torstein Nordstrand: Gawn post an sp you know you want to though I have really be enjoying both your other work recently.

Rossimo: You managed to post just infornt of me so I missed you Smile. Don't be to hard on yourself I learn an important leason this week and that was to relax while doing you sp. If you are too busy worying about it you will never be able to concentrate on where to put you brush strokes.

Well here is something I am really bad at :/. In the spirt of practice I tried to use the painter pencil tool wich really is one of my nemises in that program. I havent really got any experance with drawing with pen and I am not sure how to make marks any advice gratefull received Smile.

This isnt bad at all, if you want to play with cross hatching for shading, I think it's great when the lines actually suggest the forms and volume. I love Serpieri 's crosshatching , here's an example pic. He's an Italian graphic novel author, and great master of anatomy. You can do a search for 'druuna' or 'serpieri' but don't do that at work teehee Embarassed

ChiaNi - I think on behalf of everyone who saw your last pic "thank goodness you feel better!"

REkz - Nice colouring going on there. I like that weird blue tone!

ZipZ-- Hilarious looking guy! Reminds me of a woodcut! That's very inventive and might I add REFRESHING!

Rossimo - Nice work for someone who is just jumping in. I found that the best way to get better is by practising and by "copying" the style of someone else's art here that you like very much.

As a traditional oil painter, I draw inspiration from Lionel's work who in turn draws inspiration from alot of other peoples' work. Sometimes the struggle is really what it's all about....and then it hits! Tah-dah! How'd I do that???

Ohhh.... and a little encouragement goes a LONG LONG way!

faB: I had a link and I see what you mean about the way he uses cross hatching. I always try to get my line to follow the form etc as it works for painting but as you can see I am oftern less than succsessful Wink. I have a bad habit of not saving my stuff too. The pencil tool in painter really doesn't feel like a pencil to me so color pencils must be really weird to use. The peopertions on the drawing look good though.

ChiaNi: You look much better and simileing Smile

ZippZopp: With all thouse reflections it look kinda like an erly Lucian freud Smile.

MrBrian: Awesome you reall have a kanck for getting simple shapes out in you self portrats. I really enjoy seeing them.

MikeyS: The eyes real seem to stand out on that one

My go I am finding this tough. The more I strugle with lines the more I marvel at comic book artists.
