So what happened to all your manors? English anyone?
Matthew: If you live in Sthlm it's not that hard to find markers. But it's another thing to be able to afford them! They are fun to play around with but personally I don't use mine as much as I thought I would. Inexpensive materials are sometimes better, because one is not afraid of wasting it.
I'd recommend buying some brushes, ink pens (not sure of the name but the kind that you dip in the ink, they come in many different forms one and is called "ato" I think) and regular black ink and a nice set of watercolors. It will probably do a beginner (I'm not sure at what level you are at, so I'm just rambling away here) more good than a set of markers will.
Anyways...I get my markers at Matton on Birger Jarlsgatan 55, they have stores in Gothenburg and Malm too.
And if you are going to buy other kinds of art material I recommend "Masters" on St Paulsgatan (on sdermalm in Stockholm). The staffs is friendly and very helpful (at least to me...), the prices are better than at the larger art stores such as Kreatima. But I guess this will only be of help for the ones that live in Stockholm...
I just remembered that I've heard good things about Pernbys Mlarskola, and it has an emphasis on painting and drawing skills. That is not as common today as it used to be, for example I've heard about people getting very disappointed at Konstfack because all they do is modern video concept installations or what ever it's called (not that I've hold anything against that kind of art). Not sure how true this is but a friend told me about a girl she knew that dropped out of Konstfack because she didn't like spending more time reading vcr instructions than painting...

_________________ Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari? |

It's Svanstrms. I know that they have got both copic and tria markers in the store at Htorget, but it's an exception I think, most of the other Svanstrms store probably won't have pro markers.
Kreatima is ok, but it's a large store and it's located very central in Stockholm. The prices on certain things are sometimes ridiculously high compared to smaller stores (but sometimes lower too, because they deal with larger quantities). And I haven't always found the staff very helpful. So I still recommend going to Masters. I'm not affiliated with them in anyway, but it is my favourite store and I would hate see them go out of business or anything just because people are too lazy to find alternatives. Though you won't find copic or tria markers at masters, they have got everything else you need for traditional art.
And to keep this on topic, here's a few links to art schools in Sweden (most of them are located in Stockholm I think).
http://www.basis.se/
http://www.konstskolan.se/
http://www.pernbys.se/
http://www.konstskola.nu/(Gerlesborgsskolan, located both in Bohusln and in Stockholm)
http://www.nyckelviksskolan.se/
http://www.idunloven.se/
Higher levels of education:
http://www.kkh.se/(Kungl. Konsthgskolan, The Royal University College of Fine Arts, a.k.a "mejan")
http://www.valand.gu.se/ (in Gothenburg I think)
http://www.konstfack.se
http://www.arch.kth.se/ (architecture)
That is all I can remember right now. There is of course plenty more than this, especially since I'm only familiar with the ones in Stockholm. And I didn't bother with the commercial, media, advertising kind of schools like Beckmans, Berghs, Forsbergs and so on. |
