This is what Ive done to a sketch I posted few weeks(!?) back. I altered the contrast and brightness and saturation in the end and got a better result than what I actually painted. But I would like to see all that when I paint and not have to adjust those things in the end.. guess more practise..
c&c most welcome! |

Their is a small lightling issue it appears that your using multiple
lightsources in which case shading needs to be taken into account...
Personally I like the composure of his design. _________________ Thankyou for your time.

i know someone may already have said this before, but the drape thingy that covers part of his face looks a LOT like the one in Soul Reaver |

whoa d.a.r.y.l.
looks like you're off to a great start!
Good color choice -- I can tell you were thinking about primary colors. You may want to try swapping out the red for purple, or the yellow for green; I think playing with complementary colors may benefit this painting.
Your proportions look good, though a bit posed. Try doing the same pose in a mirror if you can, near the computer or print it out and put it near a mirror. If you look back between yourself and the picture, I think you'll be able to see how you can change it for the better.
Lastly, I have to say it -- it looks like you used the dodge and burn tools to give your picture a lightsource. I personally frown on that, but that's just me, I guess.
But great painting, overall. I love the mood and the subject.
keep it up! ^_^ _________________ ------------------------

you've captured the mood you're going for, but i think the character could do with some work on his anatomy - his torso/arms look a bit too much like an inflatable doll as opposed to fleshy body parts, if you see what i mean. the left arm, in particular, is too tubular.
ok that's it |

thanks a lot for all your replies! really appreciated.
Link_omega: thanks for the compliment and yeah there's supposed to be light coming from behind right and from front left but I must say I cant really point out exactly what I should do to make it more real shaded. Any advice?
Raji: No one mentioned it before but that could be very true. Im a great fan of the design of Soul reaver but didnt have that in mind when painting this though. I just like parts of the face covered in characters. As in Shinobi for PS2 as well.
Walkaer: Thanks alot! Complimentary colors, good idea. I'll look into the posing it might be bit unnatural now. Actually I didnt use the dodge and burn tool, never used them! What is it that looks dodge and burned? I use a semi hard brush and thats basically it. I did up the contrast a lot though from the original, that might be it? Thanks again for your input!
gezstar: heh I agree fully. Should have more shapes in there. thanks! |
