Hi Guys,
I just wanted to here from some of you art tech junkies out there about video cards. I'm thinking about getting the:
ATI Fire GL Z1 http://mirror.ati.com/products/workstation/fireglZ1/index.html
or the NVIDIA Quadro4 580 XGL http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=quadro4xgl
Does anyone know when nVidia's new line of graphic workstation cards based on the geforce fx line going to be availible?
I'm building a workstation for home to be used for Max 5, Maya, and photoshop. I want/looking for a video card that is 8x AGP.
Anyone have any advice or info about the cards I'm thinking about? Or is there another brand that I should be looking at?
thanks in advance.

I know a fat hairy friend who dl porn more than i do, he spend home all day play games and reading about hardware stuff. Anyway, he said that the Quadro is just an advanced and overloaded Geforce while the FireGl is completely redesigned from the skratch. _________________ Join Roundeye SECRET art forum shhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! |

That's what you get for going on a sabbatical for 5 years. :0
Just kidding.
From what i know ATI card has some amazing features, while GeForce does too.. hehe. But i don't like ATI drivers support and AGP x8 bug in some recent card so i'd buy GF myself. |

I am completely with Shizo on this one. ATI has a terrible reputation when it comes to drivers. I've had to put up with ATI and their crap on some machines at work, but the homefront has been nvidia all the way and trouble free. _________________ - Tom Carter

And relatively cheap too!
Nvidia gives you bang for the buck in my opinion.

what the quadro has over the geforce is the antialiasing power... so if you're into the highest quality for your viewport, go with the quadro... if not, check out that comparison and maybe a geforce4 will do it for you...
can't say too much about the ATI, but the quadro4 0wnz it in most tests i've seen...
if you're rich, then get the newest wildcat ( www.3dlabs.com ), it 0wnz all, but the price 0wnz all too... but you'll be set for quite some time with that one, even though it costs twice as much as the box you're gonna build |
