Well, I've finally finished the introduction comic to the Haven: City Of Violence core rulebook by Louis Porter, Jr. Design. It's so good to see a project all come together in the end. Very Happy

Anyway, here are a few frames:

(there are some more up at my gallery if you're interested)

Anyway, I should be moving my gallery soon - paid host, real domain, etc. etc. - and I'll also have a new email address, so everyone please make sure you still keep in touch. Wink

I like that first one a lot. great color choices and the textures are very nice aswell.

some of the gunshots look a little bent though, to me...

great colours!

But i must say, caues im a weapon-freak :p... that your muzzle flashes are too "sci-fi" I dont think it complements ur wonderful figures, environments, etc. Muzzle flares dont always tough the barrel and most often than not do NOT accompany the round 1 meter off the barrel :p

Unless of course.. its a laser/plasma/energy weapon thingy then..well.. i shant bother u anymore :>

But seeign how there are spent shell casings.. (although they dont look like they are ejected from any particular source) it would have been nice to see a muzzle flare 3/4 the size of his head at most. And make it round, spherical. Its hot gas, lights and sparks, so it moves like a gas.

enough ranting. I cant draw or paint as good as you, so i'll shut up :p

my 2 cents!

cheers

Thanks Very Happy. As you can probably tell, it's all very expressive, and not meant to be overly realistic at all. I decided that the energy of the illustration was more important than technical accuracy in this project and kept it all very fresh and loose.

Thank you for your comments though, definately good points to keep in mind.

Thanks for all of your support.

Yes, many appologies for the popups - I've bought real webspace now and once I manage to upload the site, there'll be a simple domain name and no more nasty pop-up-things.

It's definately not photo maniplation, but many of the frames are based on some quick reference photos I took of friends which sped up the process immeasurably.

Hi Rowan,

I love this style. The energy you have tried to capture is just perfect. It oozes character. The hue gradient on the bottom pic is a really nice touch. I saw your new website a few weeks ago. I like the header texture, it is really simple yet very nice.

I'd love to see more of this comic project. Oh btw, Go out to a newsagent and buy iDN. The current issue, maybe last months perhaps... is all about the comic industry and it has some nice interviews and examples of work from a wide variety of styles. It really is an eye opener to a lot of styles you don't usually see, so I think you'll love it.

[666]Flat: I'd love to tell you more about the story, but as the game isn't due for release untill April 2003 I'd better purse my lips. Look for it in stores when it comes out though, I was also priveledged enough to illustrate the cover artwork for the book.

Ian Jones: Thankyou Smile I'm going to make an attempt at keeping the website updated this time Wink.

I think I saw that iDN briefly - I really should get my hands on it though. Its always great to see new and different styles. I can never seem to find the iDN in newsagents though.

dr. bang: Thanks! I've been keeping myself very busy over the last couple of years - I've been trying to call past as much as possible though and it's been great to see you progressing in leaps and bounds.

Rowan: Yeah, iDN tends to be hard to find sometimes in Brisbane aswell. If you have too much trouble I can always scan some of the imagery.

hehe, we all know updates are a hollow promise. Very Happy

GREAT texture and color. I'm glad you didn't go any more realistic. It's much more visually interesting and expressive this way. Kudos! I'll be looking into more of your work. Smile

merlyns: Thanks - I'm kind of partial to how the colour turned out myself - the whole comic looks good with most of the frames in various subdued hues, punctuated with colourful bright action frames like the one above.

Ian: Ta! I think the likelihood of me actually getting a back issue is pretty slim, so do go scanning in a batch and violating copyright or anything, butif there are any real stunners in there, send them my way Very Happy. Did you Desktop an issue or so back? - some of the vector-based illustrations featured were great, but I can't remember who the artist was (and a workmates run off with the issue, naturally)

- and as for the updates : I'll try. I'm aiming for fortnightly so you should see something new at least every 6 months or so Wink I have some more billboard retouching for World Wildlife Fund to put up, so hopefully I'll have that done and the site in it's new happy paid-host home by the end of the weekend.

Pigeon: Thanks, it's always a balancing act between expressive potential and realism. I haven't done a lot of work as loose and 'messy' as this before, but is seemed to turn out well so I'll probably be producing more of its like in the future.

Rowan: I'll maybe scan a couple and mail them to you... just for your interests sake. I don't they are stunners.... but they are pretty good. It depedns when I have my scanner plugged in. Smile

I did get Desktop... a couple issues back.. I got September and October. Was it one of those? one was about Corporate ID. The other was about Paper.

6 months it is then.... haha.

Ian: Thanks for that. I think it may have been the November issue that I was talking about. I've had a hunt around the office and it still hasn't turned up so I think it may have dissapeared for good ... as things have a habbit of doing.
