Hi, i know there are several posts on painter but i would really appreciate like a portrait tutorial on painter. I have painter classic which came with my wacom. I am not familiar with painter as most of my work is done in photoshop. I am not satisfied with what photo shop does for realistic tones and such but i have seen many beautiful paintings done in painter. Thanx in advance

That's true, and if a person wants to use Painter (or any other program) to paint something, they need to know how to use the program.
Painter's brush variants, "out of the box", are great but there's so much more that can be done with them once we know how to make setting adjustments.
Most folks using Painter soon want to adjust the brushes to get specific results. If they're working on Layers, there are things they'll need to know to avoid problems.
For instance, the blending brushes, in their default state, work best on the Canvas. When used on a Layer, if the blending brush variant doesn't paint color, it leaves a foggy look on the Layer. If the blending brush does paint color, it leaves white edges around the brush strokes. Unless the artist knows how to prevent this, it can be pretty frustrating.
There are a couple of adjustments that can be made to prevent that, and allow for some great possibilities when building up color gradually on several layers or blending what's below the Layer without affecting anything but the Layer.
That's just one small example of why it's good for a new Painter user to get some help from more experienced users, to make the most of what's available.
Ultimately, the artist has to do the painting but understanding the tools is pretty necessary. |
