Hello I painted on my latest Mecha this weekend and painted on it a little bit today, I was going for the more Metallic look but managed to screw it up. At least what I think. C&C appreciated and feel free to kill the Mecha.
At least the background is better on this one. But I didnt work in layers...huuu
How do I make Metal textures?
Have a nice day and prosper or how does that work

Hi Matthew! Great progress since the last mechas you did. Though generally I would recommend you to study more anatomy and have that in mind when you do concepts of figures.(mechas, fantasy, reality etc.) Weight, proportions, all that has a major role when it comes to making a pose interesting. Not to sound harsh, but your picture just feel stiff. Like he's floating in space or something. Figure drawing is by far the most important source of learning how to sketch IMO. I guess a start would be for example www.polykarbon.com or www.fineart.sk Just don't bother too much about the cartoony style, I know there may be better alternatives.
Start by mastering the human body, that's my cent..
(I'm not a master of english, as you see.. )

i like the way you did the highlights, while your not perfect yet, just keep drawing. Try to focus on the human form though, I've found just trying to place all the muslces and bones on my drawings can improve them majorly. Like if you couldn't bend that far, chances are your drawing couldn't either.
About this drawing in praticular, the staff being behind him sort of (v)ucks it up. Try putting it in front of him. |
