spooge, nice to see you so active all the time here, it's very inspiring. DId you stop doing your watercolors btw ? Did you do those at home or were they a part of some class you joined ?

Just playing with a quick figure drawing which I was sort of happy with for some other reason than it being a good or impressive drawing. Dunno why though...

Spooge- exactly what do you hate and love about Painter? If speed of the brush stroke is a concern, have you tried tweaking the feature setting on the brushes? Usually the lower the feature, the denser the bristles are and will slow the speed down to a crawl at slightly higher resolutions. Try upping them to about 4 or 5, if you are going with larger brush sizes. Maybe even higher than that if you use really big brushes.

Hi Joachim,

I am still going, but not as much. Bigger responsibilities at home now. I like that locked leg a lot. A really nifty solution to a tough thing to show.

Lunatique, thanks for the tip, it is helping quite a bit! The onion is peeled back another layer. I am learning enough now to ask questions of Jin that might not even waste her time.

Bob- ???

yeah bob- these last few have been posted at the rez they were painted at, or very close. I will try higher rez thanks to Lunatique's tip. They are painter 7 with a little PS were I just went insane trying to control painter.

Duracel, yes try it. Others can't have as much trouble with it as I do.

starglider, go look at those movies I posted. I doubt the scripts would work, and if they did it would take new levels of headache to make them work.

and meanwhile, on the Oceans of Blood...

Yep Lunatique, Jin told me the same advice. It really avoids brush lag a lot, but loses some of the similarity with traditional brushes I think. It is really a pleasure watching how paint flows at a good "feature" ratio with small brushes...

BTW SPOOGE, that nearly wrecked ship is astonishing!!! But it is a pity I nearly cannot see anything but a red square from your latest pic Crying or Very sad I'll try to fix my screen's numbers laters...

Here's another tip for fellow Painter users:

If having that impasto look isn't too important to you, I suggest you turn it off completely. Just set the "Draw to" to Color instead of Depth. This will speed up those impasto brushes you like.

But on a second thought, most of the impasto brushes have a non-impasto version in "Brushes" category anyway...

I personally find the brush strokes made with the impasto brushes a bit gimmicky looking. Those same brush strokes actually look much better to me without that fake bump lighting on it.

Also, for those that find Painter's interface too cluttered, here's my setup:

The ones I circled are pretty much the only ones I tweak. I unloaded all the other crap I don't use off the interface altogether. I also threw the brushes I use most often into a Custom Brushes palette. Makes accessing them a lot faster.

Just a portrait drawing for one of my classes. It's an assignment in controling the detail in light and dark areas.
