Hey dudes, um.. This is how I paint and I want to improve to make things more realistic. And also improve on time - took 3hours. Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated.
Anyway, here's how it was painted in Painter Classic [I don't have the luxury of layers ].
Step I - do a sketch.
Step II - block colours in greyscale.
Step III - blend
Step IV - add blue to dark areas
Step V - add local colours
Step VI - add darker local colours
Step VII - add green to darkest areas and add red to respective facial areas.
Step VIII - add lens flare and signature.
Thanks for your attention. _________________ - b

it's pretty good. For next time when you have a pic in your mind do a lose sketch then look for some references to help you know the details. Look at youre pic you havent look at any ear when you painted it. Ears donn't look like that and it's impossible that its so dark in there So pretty good pic but if you would look for some references you could improve it. _________________ portfolio | art blog |

Thanks guys for all the advice. I'm going to rework this picture with your comments in mind.
oDD thanks for your advice. I just noticed that it's kind of dark in the ear - makes her look like she's got a hole in the head. Also noticed that the neck looks like a cylinder. Gonna try and fix this up to get a better on..
Max - brother in arms - long live the lens flare - your lens flare pic of cindy inspires me all the time .
Matthew - I paint using the water colour tool then use the wet diffuser tool to blend and dry and add then start the next step - I really envy the folks that have photopaint - it would help out a lot - still painter classic is as good as it gets for free.
Snowboy - lens flares are fun - try it some time. This is not the Adobe(tm) kind, though I'm working towards creating more dramatic lens flares. I think Jezebel has a wicked painting with some awesome lens flare in it. _________________ - b

Unforuntately, Queen's is cancelling my account, so these images may be going down in a couple of weeks, so hope this work:

Decided to do a paint over of your picture. The biggest crit I would give is to make sure that you understand where the light is coming from. I don't just mean the light from the source, I mean bounced light off of clothing and skin. That light can bounce on other parts of the body, Illuminating them, but in a different colour light than the source.
For the overpaint what I mostly did was highlight the face more using the reflected light I saw on her chest. I highlighted the jugglar vein or muscle or whatever it is, and I also darkened the far side of the neck to enhance the sence of illusion.
