One should stop, if going on won't add anything to the feeling of the image anymore.
One should stop before an image becomes lifeless...... |

Hey craig.
Did you get that tick from Art Center? Because I have the exact same tick.
Maybe from Howard Pyle or the Brandywine guys? They were big on that concept as well.
" If the layout dosn't kill in 30 minutes from 50 feet...then start over."
I think that's the right quote. You get my point though.
One other great tick to have is the ability to paint a hand in 5 strokes like JS Sargent. _________________ **Have a Nice Day**

The first took about a good hour- The second about 40 minutes.
I'll have to start picking up the pace... get looser and more expressive...

Greenpeach- I really don't know when it is done. When you get sick of it? When it hasn't gotten any better in a while?
Ceenda, I thought you were a naut fan. I think I started that thing a while ago when you posted one. Is that a similar image to yours? It did not feel like my composition.
Koryh, not sure where I picked it up. I have so many ticks I can't keep track |

Hi Craig,
ok i understand, that from the beginning-has-to-be-just-right stuff, wich is exactly what i began to emphasize, that wonderful afternoon a friend sent me an e-mail with "goodbrush.com" in it. I have been drawing / painting years without real focus on that. Seeing your goodbrush/speedpaint work redirected me completely. I begin to understand how to work with really big blocks of main value from the beginning.
Also a very interesting and fresh new challenge for me is : finding ways to use textured/captured/custom brushes to achieve richness in colors and values. That nautilus picture for example --> subtle and very effective how you did the water ripples with texture. The texture *is* the water. I like that. The texture is not "here the artist put some extra varation on top"
Wich wacom tablet do you use ? Is an A4 size handy to work with or is an A5 enough ? _________________ If there is no God, who pops up the next kleenex in the box? |

Blimey, spooge...that's one SCARY lady! I thought the priestess with the falling flowers around her was more attractive. Maybe not hot and sexy in a Dr. Bang-friendly way, of course...but pretty cute nonetheless.
Not that I go around evaluating paintings of women on their hotness, of course. _________________ Dignity isn't important. It's everything.

Wow, after all those sexy ladies, here's a bearded fella from Alabama to bring you all back to Earth.
BARoNTieERi: I'm really diggin' the work you've been posting here. Very colourful and creative. Keep it up.
Dom: Nice studies! I'd like to try watercolours sometime as the approach is a wee bit different.
spooge: Yeah, the composition's quite similar to this one. Been playing with a number of different submersible designs. Nothing to rival Disney's original though. |

Thanks ceenda. Watercolors is a great medium. It's really challanging but helps you in solving forms with simple shapes of value and color. _________________ Dom

I dont know what I am doing. but I thought I would post up, this being my first post here and also my first every trying to do some type of digital painting... I LOVE FILTERS....But I left them to learn this.. I love the art here, and I cant' get enough..
Yeah, I used Dhabih's tutorial for this..
Anyone got something I can learn from? Basics and stuff, the software isn't hard to know, I use PHOTOSHOP 7, I konw it quite well. But how to go about doing painting. I would like some basic advice.
Keep up the great work everyone.
