Excuse the lack of infos.

I'm lovin' it!
Those colours are fabulous.
My only suggestion would be to add some of the white highlights to his hair, which seems a little less rendered than the rest of him. _________________ Arf arf. |

quite nice, although you may be left wondering what's producing the orange light ? maybe it grabs my attention outside of the picture somehow _________________ "I'm not a shrimp, I'm a KING PRAWN !" -- Pepe.

Wow, love the line work and the coloring! How tough was it to make the arm/face paint look smeared on by his own hand/fingers?
Keep it up!! _________________

Vive.
My point was not to "grab" the eye in areas that is not necessary needed to, of course I can't really say: Damn it! I'm soo good!
You're probably right.
Fab.
Sorry, that was a "last minute" addition. not too happy with it.
Al Ian. Hmm ... not too sure that I got your point. Please, can you reformulate your question?!
Ejwize.
Mainly experimenting with blending layers/filters ... and a bit of luck
Possibly I'll make a tutorial one day when I'll feel myself ready for that, since than, wish me luck.

Thanks all of you for your appreciation!

Really amazing. Can I ask you, do you make your black line drawing with ink and then scan it, or do you create it digitally? Also, if it is scanned line art, what wand settings do you use when you grab it (if you're using photoshop)? _________________ Smokey, this is not 'Nam this is bowling. There are rules. |

When I say, when are you going to put an online gallery of yours Bizarde? I've been praying for it, I promised to walk 20 miles over chewed chewing-gum if you created it, but noone heared me...

Bob, I'm kinda new to digital medium, so bear with me. It looks to me like Bizarde was painting on a layer beneath the black line drawing. When I do this, I scan image, then grab the black line with the wand to create a layer that is clear except for the line. Is there a simpler or better way of doing this? _________________ Smokey, this is not 'Nam this is bowling. There are rules. |

Inspector Lee... the easiest way to take lineart on a white background and make it into an overlay is to just make the linearts layer into multiply instead of normal in the popup menu on the layer palette.
Or, if you want to knock out the transparency perfectly, here is how I make black and white line art into a transparent layer:
First get cleaned up, grayscale lineart
Select the whole canvas and copy it.
Then make a new *channel* (not a layer) and paste it into it.
Then in the channel palette, I'll CTRL+click on the channel just made. That will make a selection based on the line art.
Then I'll go back to the layers palette, make a new layer named "lineart" or something, and fill the selection made from the channel with black or whatever color you want to use for the linework. The way I fill stuff is I put the color I want to fill in the background and press CTRL+delete.
That will essentially take every degree of white and turn it into transparency so that greys and middle values will mix with what is on layers underneath. |

Ejwise: Thanks for helping me out. This is the million dollar question I have been trying to figure out for months now. I'm following your directions, but having a little trouble. I get as far as creating a new channel and selecting the line art. Once I have that done, I can't create a new layer on the same canvas (all selections in Layers menu greyed out). Sorry if I'm a little slow on the uptake ![Embarassed](images/smiles/icon_redface.gif) _________________ Smokey, this is not 'Nam this is bowling. There are rules. |

Hrmmm... I'm trying to follow my own directions here to see if I can figure out the problem and I can't seem to recreate the layers options grey out.
I suspect the problem may be that I didn't describe a step in enough detail...
So you get as far as pasting your lineart into a channel and turning that into a selection -- so you've got the marching ants selection outline defining just the lines of the lineart...
From there, you should be able to play with layers - add, delete, move between them - at will. It should be just the same as if you made a selection with any other tool - marquis, lasso, whatever.
Hrm. Are you using the dropdown menu from the strip across the top of the workspace or the right pointing button in the upper right corner of the layers palette? I don't think that should matter anyway.
Maybe if you made the lineart layer before making the selection... then once you get your selection, find your way back to the already made lineart layer and fill the selection into it? |

Ejwise. I can't thank you enough! I re-read your directions and it worked perfectly. You don't know how long I have been trying to figure out a way to do that! I hope I can return the favor some day. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) _________________ Smokey, this is not 'Nam this is bowling. There are rules. |

Ejwise, one more question if you don't mind. When I created the new channel sometimes it came out black, and sometimes white. I tried swapping the background/foreground pallete in the tool bar, but this didn't seem to affect it. What determines wether the new channel you're creating will be black or white? _________________ Smokey, this is not 'Nam this is bowling. There are rules. |

Cool! Glad it worked.
I don't know what effects the color of the new channel. I haven't really paid attention to that. I'll see if I notice in the course of working in the future and let you know if I can figure it out. |

just a couple of extra tips-
use Ctrl+Alt+a number to automatically load the selection from the relevant channel. (for example ctrl+alt+4 to select the first non RGB channel)
instead of using this (slightly cumbersome) method, you can simply put your lineart layer on "multiply" mode and color underneath it. all the white areas on this layer will become invisible and you basically get the same result. |

Thanks ejwise and Bilbo for all the help. I've had a little time to practice both methods, and I do see a visible difference between the multiply method and the channel method (although it's subtle). The channel method tends not to grab very subtle grey "noise" or smudging that the scanner may have picked up, so looks a tiny bit cleaner. But for down and dirty the multiply methods definitely quicker. I'm sure I'll use both. It's so great to have a place to come for help like this. I can't say enough good things about this forum. _________________ Smokey, this is not 'Nam this is bowling. There are rules. |

guys, this is way too much off topic, please don't do this in other ppl threads!
Inspector Lee: I still use the classic way paper&pencil for drawing. I prefer normal blue pencil for the sketch(this way later it's easier to take it out in photoshop), and a 0.5 black ink pen (I prefer ''Pilot''). After scan ... PS...
Yes, when I open the image in PS first thing that I'm doing is to ''Duplicate'' background and delete the original one, this way you can set the BG as ''Multiply'' mode, and keep it all the time on the top of the layers list.
Tayete: that's true, I still don't have a web page, but I have an Online Gallery at Visualart.ro, check my signature.
