I have an Athlon T-Bird 1.4, 512 megs of RAM, and a geForce 4 4200 w/128 mb. Painter only lags for me if i use something really complicated like the impasto or effects brushes at a very large scale. I've found that a good way to counteract the lagginess is to start on a smaller canvas at higher resolution (like say 800 x 600 at 1200 dpi) and use all those big complicated brushes to block in, and when i'm ready to do fine detail and I don't need to make such long strokes, I resize the canvas (like to 1600 by 1200 at 300 dpi). There is some loss of quality, but that doesn't matter because i'm doing the details and cleaning up anyway. The pic I'm working on now is 2625 x 4200 at 300 dpi and I get no lag unless I use a brush bigger than around 80-100 pixels (depending on the brush). _________________ - Rockstar Ninja Artist Extraordinaire |
