I know most of the stuff here is Photoshop stuff- I just thought I'd share some of my vector work created in Adobe Illustrator-
Here's another image:
If you've used Illustrator and loved or hated it, let me know the how's and why's- I need comments about Illustraor to submit to Adobe Illustator Marketing team.
BTW- I used photo references, the work of Hajime Sorayama (www.sorayama.net) to really show what vectors can do.
Thanks.

I had no idea you could do stuff like that in illustrator. WOW!
I like the second one much better than the first. The right side of the first girl's face seems to be turned away from the front yet her eye and the right side of her lip is rendered almost facing front. Could just be me. But man, these are both amazing pics. I'm just amazed that they're vectors! _________________ No matter where you go, there you are. |

DANG!!! I love the second one, the first one seems to have some minor anatomy issues with the face.
but that second one... oh the chromey, leathery reflections on teh skin tight dress... beautiful.. ![Cool](images/smiles/icon_cool.gif) |

hmmm... on second look, i don't think that's the problem with the first one. i think her head is a bit skewed or something. like her ear is too far away from her eyeline or something. i don't know. something about the first one is wonky. maybe it's just me. still kick ass though _________________ No matter where you go, there you are. |

Impressive stuff! the reflections on the dresses are superb.
I agree about the face problems on the first one- the ear seems to be too far to the right, the nose should be nudged slightly to the left, and the hands on both images seem to be a little too soft .
Would you mind posting a close up on one of the faces? |

Here's another illustration drawn in Adobe Illustrator. I wanted to see if I could get a reflective material using the gradient blends and opacity modes.
I used an H. Sorayama image as reference.
Any other vector artists out there?

Nice work.
I've used Illustrator for almost 10 years and have loved it ever since I started. The only thing I can think of that I don't like about it is the swactches pallete. I wish it was the same as the photoshop one, as far as how it looks and works. How you can load webhues, etc. That's my only gripe. Illustrator rocks.
hey Bob: I feel the same as you about Freehand. I HATE it.. (I do have the most recent version, the MX one) but I realize it's a personal choice. I just get better results personally with Illustrator. |

Bob- nice work! Those reflections on the ambulance are top notch! Did you use gradient mesh?
If you've got more vector stuff, please post : )
btw bob- what do you like better about freehand? I've never used it- but would like to know what others like about it. |

thanx i'll dig mor out l8r when i have time..
what do i like better about freehand? appart from its faster and easier to use than Illustrator?
tbh, the first place i worked for when i was doing my Youth Training (this is where a business takes on a young recuit and trains them (all my teachings came from me i'm self taught in all my apps, didn't have time to read the manuals, well ok a little when i got really stuck) long story short, took up the youth training working for a company, but they went bust after a yr, so went to work for a back street printers cos i knew they needed someone, so i started working there and as there wasn't any1 else around i was the guy who did everything but for a small 40 a week , the apps he had on his 4mb mac classic were, Freehand and Pagemaker, so i started life as a Freehand artist, they had Illustrator @ college but the thing about illustrator was that u had 2 arrow tools 1 for moving and 1 for selecting paths ( i can never get that right!) but in freehand u have 1 arrow tool (they've changed that now but that doesn't matter) and just use the mac ctrl key to flick through the different layers and the option/alt key to select a path within a group, and hold the cmd/ctrl key when in any other tool to use that arrow (u can still use mac ctrl and the option toold to do the same as mentioned b4 as well) very quick very easy.. the 1 thing that illustrator probably has over freehand is the gradient tool where you can have 3 different origins in each fill.. if i can find the file i'll post a zoomed line/fill image of the ambulance to see how they're done in Freehand
Page layout in Freehand is better imho than Illustrator, its easer to change pags sizes etc, less fuss
not having alot of time to sit down for a few days and learn Illustrator and not really wanting to its hard to change apps..
its a bit like some ppl like Lightwave, some 3Dmax, i prefer Softimage|3D but thats all about user pref, and what you first used..
i used to think Pagemaker was the Dogs, but then i took the time to learn XPress and that is so much more powerful in page make-up than Pagemaker ever was..
@ the end of the day its all down to user preferance
the funny thing is most agencies around here advertise positions for ppl with Illustrator knowledge, but you go there and you see Freehand on so many of the mac's in use
i'll post the images i did for a flash website, they're nothing special (basically they weren't paying for it all, i did it as a favour, but that has all turned sour now )
/rant off
hope that all makes sense ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Cool people. Nice work (again) Bob-
Yeah-Illustrator is a complex app. But I think its because its trying to support so many different types of users- illustrators, designers, web designers, print houses- etc.
What version did you use? Illustrator 8 was fast and solid. Illustrator 10 (which is what I made the women with) is also pretty quick and solid.
Anyway- like you said, its a matter of preference and desire to learn (or not to learn) a new app.
Either way, I hope to see more vector art posted in the future! |

i've used various versions since 1992, last verson i used was V10, back in feb, needed it to convert some EPS stuff, thats the other good thing about it, since Adobe made PostScript, Illustrator opens any EPS/PS image
just remembered sommat else about it that p1sses me off, the Loading Time! it takes frickin years to open, where as Freehand takes a matter of seconds, Illustrator takes a good minute - minute half to open .. that sux..
as a personal challenge i might have to do a vector image to the same detail as yours
/me goes searching for spare time ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |
