hi !
this is my first piece, do u think it's good to have in a Portfolio?
the top image is what i've added into the photo (the lower image)
here's the "plate photo"
I'll be updating this post now and then.
Here is my go at a "set extension" I got this image from Anthony and he basically told me what to do. The image definatelly needs some tweaking but I'll post it now anyway, please tell me if I'm heading the wrong way, I don't really know what will catch the eye of a recruiter.
here's the Photo

You know, there are those pictures which give you an idea of vastness and the feeling something really big is going on; sluggishly but unstopable, announcing an unavoidable and yet most momentous happening. This is one of 'em.
The calm before the storm. That's the matter stories of devastating asteroid impacts are made of. Good job, FlushGarden. _________________

Very nice work, indeed worthy of a portfolio piece. I would suggest though that the hole in the sky is a bit sharp around the edge and the volume light could be a bit more intense given the surrounding darkness. Also the mountains to the left side seem to get a little too flat. A couple more strokes of tone would fix that I think. And lastly, given the hight of the hole in the forground and the mountains in the back, it seem to me that they should be getting consumed by the thick cloud mass near their the top. Good job! |

Whats funny to me is that the painted version looks almost more realistic than the original photograph
Definitely a portfolio piece. I could see that in a movie and not know I saw it ![Razz](images/smiles/icon_razz.gif) _________________ My Art.

Very nice piece. A critique for you though.
I think its a possible portfolio piece, not sure if right now. It really depends where it's sent also. I think the main problem is the perspective that's being lost by the fact that the actual cloud is in front of the mountains. In the plate those clouds are sitting back becuase they get small as the your eye travels into the perspective. In your painting, the clouds get smaller, but seem to sit before the mountain(s). Which sort of confuses the viewer. I am still trying to figure out what you are trying to achieve in this effect, whether you want them to be be in front or in back. If you want them in front as sort of making a funnel then make them slightly larger and a bit more dominant. If you want them to dissapear in the distance, place them behind the mountains.
Nice painting though, really great job. How large was your plate?

I think there are only a very select few here at Sijun who can truly answer this, John.
I'd really love to hear what Craig or Loki (for example) have to say on the matter. In my opinion, it is incredible and should be definitely added to your portfolio, but I'm not exactly the most qualified to make that judgement. Regardless, you are one phenomenally talented young man. |

Truly awesome, do you have any pictures showing the progress of these fine paintings? _________________ "It would be quicker to train an APE!"
