jees i love this painting--it's so full and hardly lacking anything---it gives a sense of space--i could almost smell the trees--one thing that kinda,,,KINDA seems like you could change---on the left side--the trees kinda merge with the sky, like the sky overlaps the trees almost--i think it'd be good if you made the "lining" of the trees not so straight...see how you made an irregular "lining" of the trees on the RIGHT side?...you stuck some trees out there and some stayed in--hope it made sense---i love what you did with the top right---awesome awesome _________________ www.andresguzman.com

Socar, just wanted you to know that your works are very inspiring. I love your skill in setting a certain mood in a pic. This is IMO another very good example of what i mean. Surfing your website and watching your art moved me to practising atmosphere. So i guess i owe you a thanks for that
Keep it up! _________________ r3t-art |

B0b and 666Flat - Sure, no problem...here is a 1600 X 1200 version: http://www.gorblimey.com/rubbish/thunderdesk.jpg
Godwin - Thank you!
Al Ian - Thanks very much! If you see it close up, though, it's not really THAT realistic...I was going for a more impressionist look.
Awetopsy - I actually did this picture quite a while ago...must've been in September...but I couldn't post it till the sourcebook was released.
r3t - Thank you very much! And good luck with working on atmosphere...scenery painting is great practice for that.
Matthew - Hehehe...don't fall asleep!
the_insider - Hey, thanks for the crit--you have a really good point there. It's a bit late to change it now (and I think a Thundercat is over that part of the picture anyway), but I will definitely remember that for next time I do a treeline.
Intuos - Thanks! I hear the book is pretty good, in fact...Thundercats fans like it.
nilpferd - Thank you! Glad you like my colours.
mindsiphon - Thanks very much! _________________ Dignity isn't important. It's everything.

wow, very nice Socar. Love the lighting and colour. The strokes are really nice too, texture wise they are really appealing. Those jungle trees are pretty cool. Nice shapes and mossy vines etc... |

Beautiful!
I especially like how you've managed to keep the middle/upper portion of the painting interesting even though it's so bare. Nice Job.
Only critique:
I love the richness in color and complexity that the background has. I don't see the same richness in the foreground. If you were trying to keep the foreground simpler than the background, then it may have worked better if the trees in the nearest foreground where a complete sillouette. Just an idea.

lion - back at ya!
Malachi Maloney - Thank you! Glad the heat comes across loud and clear!
Kamal - Thank you for the critique! That is, in fact, a very good idea, especially since this is for a comic-book illo. That kind of sharp silhouette thing is good for comics. It's too late for me to change this one, but there is going to be a lot more where this came from, so I will bear your advice in mind for future reference.
B0b - You're welcome!
Ian Jones - Thank you! I'm trying to really lick my textures into shape these days...good to hear it's working. _________________ Dignity isn't important. It's everything.

I love the clouds.. both the shapes and the colors. The trees in the background are astonishing as well. But theres one thing that I think you could do to make it even better. Extend the thinnest branches of the trees in the foreground. I think they seem to be a little short. Thats just a thougt.
Keep ut the GREAT work!! _________________ Online portfolio: http://www.nyqvist.cjb.net |
