Heya

Was wondering whether anybody knew of any software that was good for cataloguing images? For example, I like to save reference images to my hard drive, but its sometimes hard to find what I want months later.

Ideally, i'd like something that previews all images in a folder, and allows you to assign keyword descriptions to them. At the moment, i've just started using ACDSee which seems pretty good, but anyone use anything else that they find effective?

Hi there,

You have one of the three most used applications for your needs ...

The two others are :
Canto Cumulus http://www.canto.com/
Extensis Portfoilo http://www.extensis.com/portfolio/

One problem with ACDSee databases is that it's not easy (read : possible) to move the databases to a safer and more practical location than your systemdrive (c:/windows...), this will mean that your hard work making keywords and indexing will be lost if you have a bad breed of windows os (i.e. Win 95/98/Me) If you're using NT4 Win2000 or XP you should be safer, but it is still not advisable. ACDSee is also pretty buggy, in many areas, including it's database feature. Have a look at the various softwares websites and have a look in their forums, you should get a pretty good impression of what problems you may get with the software, and also the level of support you will be getting from the chosen system ...

There are other insanely expensive systems too ... but probably not so interesting unless you are a corporate user ...

Good luck ...
