I really like your forest, too, oDD. better than this

painter is too slow

edit, starglider, here is the ref photo. I really was inspired about oDDs forest. The lighting is diffuse above and coming through foliage. Trees are cylinders with big balls on top (quiet flat:)) and the shadows are very subtle.

The tree trunks are vertical surfaces, and of a dark local color. (There is a variety of Eucalyptus that looks burnt) They are also directly under the ball of leaves. This makes them very dark compared to the ground plane. I tried to exaggerated that.

I also liked the warm diffuse of odds but went somewhere else in the end. The red and the green are tied together by being of the same value and intensity, but hue is exact opposites. Odds had a richness due to this. It also has a cool light/warm shadow thing going on.

spooge, is that forest 100% out of your head ? or did u use refs ? How in the world can you "synthesize" so real-world lighting situations.....do you have a mental database of all possible lighting and texture situations in your head Question I think its a little bit easier to create typical lighting situations like in fantasy or sci-fi pictures, than in paintings like this forest, wich have nothing really special, but rather has a wonderfully reality quality. Or something. er...dunno. im just jaleous about the skillz.

Very quick. Horribly bent to the right. Not much attention paid to detail.

thanks spooge demon, but i think comparing our work isnt a good idea Very Happy (it can be very depressing for a mortal like me)

i spend my weekends with traditional media [8 hours of life drawing class -> drinking & dancing -> ~8 hours of painting -> drinking and dancing] so i almost don't have any time for digital work but one or two speedies are possible Smile
