Your stuff is good enough for ILM believe me I know. I believe you'll hear from them at some point so be patient. Why ILM though? I believe there is this secret thing with people who are rrreally good and most who I talked with don't want to work there. Sure there are Amazing projects and stuff but more often people dream of working for ILM just for bragging rights. There is a lot more out there than ILM. Concentrate your energy and snoop arround eventually you'll find what makes you happy. BTW: didn't you have a job??? or what happened? _________________ I want to breed! |

Hey Capt., sorry I wish I had some advice for you, but I have no idea who you should submit work to, I'm totally out of the "movie artists" loop.
Maybe you could try Hatch FX?
I'm a fan of their work, I really know nothing else about them. But hey, it's another company to send out some samples to if nothing else.
I'd like to add another question/request/inquiry to the pile if I may.....
I'm wondering if anyone out there knew what companies to apply/submit to for movie poster work? That's a field of illustration I'm very much interested in learning more about and I'd really like to try my hand at it if given the opportunity. Any advice or suggestions would be great.
Anyway, sorry I couldn't be more help to you Capt.. Best of luck to you dude.
Take 'em easy,

Ohhh, I would also love to have a job in the art business. I guess i will have to paint a few more years before I can do a nice portfolio.
I like your site, very nice. You could try Nintendo. I saw some concept art from there...hmmm....dunno if they are searching for people?
take it easy

well, he's at o3games and I'm no where right now (but next thursday I will be "somewhere") or are you also refering to henrik? I don't know where he is at the moment.
In the middle of november the entire swedish population wants to get out of here. I can hardly stand looking out the window. |

Then you have not experienced a summer here. When the summer in Sweden is at it's best I can't think of any place that could be better. The nature and the people are beautiful (have you seen our girls?). The temperature is just right, not to warm and not too cold. The sun stays up forever.
But in november everything is the other way round. It's all just grey and dark. When I looked out the window at 4 pm it was dark and the street lights was on. It gets better when the snow comes but right now, sweden is not a very cheerful place to be. blah blah... there is nothing more swedish than talking about sweden...bleh
Matthew: I'm not 100% sure, but as far as I know starbreeze is a subdivision of o3games.
To all the fancy studios or production companies out there: Hire this man, while you got the chance! First of all he is a great human being and a good friend. He is expressive, artistic and true to himself in everything he does. He has worked hard too to get to the level where he is. If there ever was a thing called talent, hes got it. Also take good care of him, or I will have to kick your ass! |

yeah, has anyone else noticed how the beauty of the women in pretty much any city is directly related to the weather? It's like the real stunners just WON'T set foot outside if the sun isn't going to fry their skin to a crisp... very strange phenomenon... _________________ Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari? |

hey dude! heh so you want out of the gaming industry, and i certainly understand why. I'd also like to travel around and see the world. (not to mention that a gameartist in say great britain gets more then double the pay here). Heh.
so anyways if you find anything, i'm coming with you as well
The best thing though would be to call them up.. a email is so easy to ignore. Or perhaps as you suggested yourself, write them a letter and send some printed pictures. |

Posting on this forum asking for a job is pretty lame in my opinion word to Flush Gardin and Roundeye. Especially lame when anyone offers job they get flamed off the forum.
Anway, it is also pretty unlikely it will be effective. Do some research, scope out some companies, sign the NDA's, send off your demo tapes and printed HQ pictures, and wait for a response.
On second thought maybe add a looking for job/work section to this forum but then on third thought it would fill up so fast that it wouldn't be of any use. So, on fourth thought the above applies pretty well. |

light: you are right in a way. But some members just have more respect than others. If spooge or dabih asked hardware questions in the speed painting thread lots of people would gladly help them out. If a noob did the same they would get thrown off a cliff. I don't think Capt.Flushgarden has done anything wrong, but he could have phrased his post differently. It could be interpreted as "I'm lazy, find me a job" when it is actually more like: I need help finding a job abroad (because Im sick and tired of this place and I want to see the world)".
By the way, the most job offerings that I've seen on art forums have been highly suspicious and deserved most of the flaming they received. |

Zaar: I don't guess it matters. It just sounds whiney, and amateruish the way most people ask like "oh I really need a job" or a "I really would like to have a better job". This applies for most people. I just don't see it being a very effective method. Most people get jobs by either 1. going thru the standard channels, or 2. networking with other artist.
But, I don't see this as being networking. Even if a prospective employer sees your work here (and it looks good in Captain's and Roundeye's case) he/she might think eh you know this person sounds whiney or not really professional. That's what I'd think. Or, this person doesn't want to do game art.. etc.
Also, honestly, I think it'd be okay if spooge did this. I've seen his work and he is far better then anyone else on this forum.
Ok, everyone here would like to get a job or find a better job but none have spooge-skills yet. Too many people are copying photographs or using poor anatomy or using poor symbolism in attempts to represent reality. Get spooge-talent and you'll pick the job you want.
-- Well no it wouldn't be okay for Mullins either but if he couldn't get a job (maybe not the job he wanted) then it would be a concern for everyone. |

Ok I thinnk I have to defend myself now.
What I really meant by posting this one was to get links to different companies where I could send stuff to, this thread isn't just good for me, it's good for everyone who would like to know what companies we have out there, a week ago I only knew about companies like ILM, Blur, Digital Domain, but now, I've got alot of new bookmarks. I should have written another topic on this post.
And why do you think that people that are better than others have more right to post a "I need a job"
I don't understand why you think this is so wrong. I think this is as silly as saying that the "color dodge" tool is cheating.
You wrote: "Anway, it is also pretty unlikely it will be effective. Do some research, scope out some companies, sign the NDA's, send off your demo tapes and printed HQ pictures, and wait for a response. "
The thing is that it IS effective, I work at starbreze now, and I got this job because a guy saw my stuff here at sijun. This is my research, I post here to get answers and people are kind enough to give me info. And believe me, I do send pictures to companies, I'm smart enough to understand that I have to look for them because they won't be looking for me. |

Light:
Look, Flushgarden has every right to post here and ask for places to apply for a job, why wouldn't he?
He posted and got exactly what he wanted as people, unlike you, helped him out. And not only did they help him; their help could also help others with the same problem. You, on the other hand, contributed with nothing but naggin, and what did you (or anyone else for that matter) get out of it? Not much I figure.
If only Spooge would be allowed to apply for a job, that would leave the world with a shitload of unemployed artists, and one stressed Spooge. There are enough good yet unemployed artists as it is, now what's wrong with trying to do something about that?
Think before you post.

Well, I think Flush has re-worded some of his original post so I don't have a problem with it this way.
The problem is that if everyone posted an "I need a job" then the forum would be run over with "I need a jobs". That is why I was saying it was kinda off-topic. See Elance.
But, this thread has some good links in it so now it might be resourceful for others so I don't have a problem with it as a resource!
I said it'd be okay for spooge because it would be a community problem if someone that good couldn't get a job.
But.. yah I don't have a problem with this thread especially the better way it is worded now. I was just expressing my opinion. |
