it's more a technical practise than a selfportait..
i know that there are serveral things wrong but it's already making me sick, i just had to finish it.
it doesn't look much like me because 1. the reference photo is quite old 2. i didn't paint the glasses...

Lionel ... first thought: "its a new one? thought i have seen it before"
It looks like you have made a overpaint with anew facial play.
... look perhaps at TorsteinNordstrands Selfportraits, every single picture is absolut different. Try not only another facial play, but another lightning, another style or whatever ... but something made each new pic worth seeing! |

@criztu, geocities dont let pictures showing from not geocities-pages. So dont try it, just post a link.
PS: I like it, a drawing between all those digital work. I have another, too.
a mirror + DinA4-paper + "B"-pencil + 90minutes =
And the best, it looks really like me!
Just some really small differences ... im reallyy happy with this finished version!
And if youre interested in the "progress" of this drawing, look on this german-board-thread: http://forum.digitaldecoy.de/cgi-bin/ikonboard3/ikonboard.cgi?s=3daccd 765d7dffff;act=ST;f=1;t=845;st=280

This one is late for me. Funky pose, not entirely happy w/ this one.
Lionel: keep up the work, try spending more time lining up your features and planes at the start of your painting.

Well I tried to use the chalk pastals for a change and got this next I will have to try a different pallet .
Hunter: thanks for you kind words I always seem to focus on the details and never on the picture as a whole :/. I did try with this one to put in the planes of the face but ended up with a painting that looked like it had been done by a two year old :/
Duracel: I tries to use different tools for this one. but I admit it still looks a bit samy :/

oh no, they arent such bad
hmm, first point, try extremer lightning-conditions ... its(for me) much easier to get the face, if there are clear forms(dark and light zones) and not this smudge and blurry color mixture. Put a bright light on youre desktop, wich lighten up the half of youre face.
second point, just use another medium ... try perhaps pencil, or try black&white in PS or 3tones ... or something, just to pretend, movin' the brush like everytime ..
or perhaps, try to paint another face instead, just to get those fixed pictures-in-mind more flexible ...
Hope you understand, get free and draw what you see. not what you think you see.
Im sure, a few pages later we'll see another lionel .... *suspense* |

Well here are a few pencil sketches I did about a couple of weeks ago. I generally do a few over the weekend. I didn't post them as was just keeping my digital stuff here. It feels like I am not really seeing what is there when I am painting. When I finished that last on I compared it with what I really looked like and they were quite different :/. Just feels like I can't see when I am painting. Just need to keep practacing.

My monitor is pooping out on me -the colors are all weird! I don't know what this one looks like color-wise. The next one will have to be b/w I guess.
Keep up the great work gang!

My first "digital" self portrait. I'm fairly happy with it. Mostly completed in Painter with a little help from mr. Photoshop.
C & C would be cool.
By the way great work ChiaNi ! |
