Hi Snowman,
When talking to people, the communication can be broken down into two basic parts. Verbal and non-verbal (eg. facial expression, hand motions, posture, intonation etc.) What psychologists have said about these two parts is that non-verbal communication is more important than verbal.
The difficulty with written communication is that it lacks non verbal cues etc. So, when writting stuff, it's a lot easier for people to take it out of context.
This just means you need to spend more time saying what you type out loud - and asking yourself: 'am I assuming people will understand something about what I'm saying with the way I'm saying it?'
Finally, correct punctuation etc. is also helpful.

if someone can get one coherant thought out of my posts, I think they are doing well
you could spend 1/2 hour writing out one post grammatically perfect that will help one person, or write 10 posts that will help 10 people get the general gist of what you are seeing. issue of quality verus quantity but with some people here with language as a second language, I think like art, try to get the general idea across and let the detail take care of itself. |

heh.. im not the only one then. its funny, because i think the more words i learn, the less i can convey what i mean to other people. although looking stupid all the time does improve your sense of humor.. |

You talk small words. Big words bad. Small words easy. |

With Kirk it's not every word...it's more like:
"We've arrived...at this planet...of beautiful...women...scouting party...has been...sent down to...the...surface." :P |

I do sometimes, that’s why I usually read what I'm saying through a few times, spell check it and use smilies to back it up. |

i know the feeling!
i think i refrain from posting every third reply i write because i can't make it sound the way i want to.
the lack of non-verbal communication is what's causing most flamewars i believe...
(better ad that smiley incase someone find something bad in this post) |
