Skybox I painted for a game that was never released. The lighting looks odd because it's not just a panorama, it's a full 360-degree projection.

Great stuff guys!
here is mine. It's a matte painting background for a dragon sequence for a monitor playback for the band Rush. Actually for their concert tour thats going on now. What you see here is not quite done yet. hope you like it anyway.

Wow, crazybread...that's one hell of a painting..
How long did you work on this one? I really like the texture-work...you wanna share any secrets on making texture like that?

Looks great otherwise.

Thanx Stein.

This is actually a 3d matte painting done in Maya. I suggest building the rough scene in 3d, throwing some rough textures on it and rendering it (whatever software you use). You'll get the outline and the basics of it all. Once you have that, paint, clone, doodle, or do whatever you need to do to this image in photoshop to make it look exactly like you want it, then if for some crazy reason you decide to animate a camera arround it in 3d, project the whole thing with the same camera you rendered it from(make sure it hasn't moved though) and turn your lights off. Ohh one more thing if you decide on rendering it with a camera move make sure that this texture is projected as an image or use a material with the image source under either constant or incandescence
settings. Turn your original lights off and create another camera to rotate arround it. Practice it enough and you'll be making 3d castles like the ones in LOTR in no time. Remember this will render your scene in about 10 sec. a frame since there would be no lights in your scene at that point. The incandescence mapping allows the texture to just display so it doesn't really render it.

(Sorry about the explaining thing I tend to suck at that) Hope this helps you!

Balistic: Yes i agree with you 110% There is no sun in this scenee, so the shadows look out of place. Not only that, but Since its suppose to be morning and the sun is just supose to be rising this image would appear much darker in reality. The background layer is only a default backdrop, so the finished project has real clouds and a real sun composited in it. The end sequence works quite well as the shadows match and slowly move as the sun rises over a 3 min or so perriod. I'm glad You pointed this out as it might give some new-b-s an interesting study of what's wrong with this pic.

thanx
