I've been doing some reasearch for school about great painters, and I had a discussion with my friends about our own favourite painter. Mine is Salvador Dali, and I had a lot of problems with my friends for that... Anyway, I was wondering what your favourite painters are, and why...

Too many..
Paul Czanne - Has a great impressionistic painting style.. I just love his portraits..
Rembrandt - Master of light.. I can watch his stuff for hours on end..
Monet - Up close, it's a mess, but walk away, and it all comes together..
van Gogh - His early period, since I'm not a big fan of expressionism. The way he uses the angle of brushstrokes.
Manet - Has a very distinctive style, his "Le Bar aux Folies-Bergre" is sublime!
Craig Mullins - Should be called 'Master' of this digital art-age in the future.
and many more..

Probably Sargent, as trendy as that is.
I dig some of the abstract expressionists too, though more as decor than art. |

Froud and Bouguereau... I'm sure I totally screwed up that spelling too, but I'm too darn lazy to double check it =) |

Dont know if he counts but I really like Robert Bateman.
also Craig mullins (not a praise thing i just like his work alot)
and most of the people painting here at sijun.
there's also this guy who painted a couple of "Knight and Lady" pictures and the detail he gets on the chain mesh armor is absolutely breathtaking... but I wish I could remember his name.

This topic comes up several times a year, but it's a good one.
A short list. (For a longer one, go to my webby: www.enchanted.prohosting.com. It's a link called "The Horrifying Facts About Robet Chang!" at the bottom of the profiles page.)
Sargent-(yeah, yeah, I konw. I love him enough to have flown to Seattle just to see his exhibition).
JW Waterhouse- I would spend money flying to see his exhibition too. None are planned as far as I know.
Richard Schmid- Paints like a God.
The Spoogester- He changed how I look at photoshop and digital painting as a whole. Really opened my eyes. I don't think I've met anyone who wasn't impressed by Craig's work. |

Lunatique: There was a Sargent painting at the local art gallery (National Art Gallery of Scotland). I always thought Sargent was over-rated by some people here until I got to look at one close up. |

I love figurative painters
Kent Williams ( www.kentwilliams.com )
...wonderful feel for paint and texture... haunting subjects
and Lucian Freud .. I think Williams takes after Freud in his textural and painterly sense & raw human emotion subjects..
Sargent's watercolors are lovely, as well
