I'm pretty upset that when zoomed out, this painting still looks way too clean for what I'm trying to achieve. But when zoomed in at actual size, it looks a lot better. Maybe I need to paint totally zoomed out at the size it'll be displayed when online?

Nice work.
If you paint with photoshop, you can also open another window and zoom it to normal size, so you can always check, how it will look when zoomed out. |

You're still investigating painterly texture, no? If so, what kind? the Zorn/Sargent kind? Rembrandt? Brom? You probably know that all of these have some pretty broad strokes in their pictures.
I seldom paint when zoomed in, but then again, I'm an amateur :P
Anyway, nice mood, maybe the faces could need some more complicated colour to look alive and keep viewers interest, but what do I know. ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

This is one thing I've been wondering about too. You can do better details with a bigger picture, but when the picture is made to be on screen in a smaller size there's always problems while resizing it... Does anyone have any good tips on this?
Anyway, I don't think you have that problem, this looks very good both ways

Try using a hard edged brush or one with a built in texture (like Spooge). With the very softedged brushes, it is difficult to show strokes.
(EDIT - For example, just saw Sear's last entry in SpeedPainting... ...look here... )
Also check out using the lasso tool with various adjustments to create lighting and coloring effects - IMHO, the essence of the digital tool.

You're trying to get those brush strokes right?
Perhaps painting zoomed in, but with large brush sizes than you would normally use. This might make the strokes visible enough to show slightly when zoomed out. |

What makes sense to me is to zoom out or blur my eyes while I work on the parts of the image that don't interest me. |

Hey, thanks for the comments and suggestions you guys. I'll try the zooming out way and see if it works. |
