Your style just has so much grace and elegance to it! The only thing that bothers me is that LOOOONNNNG foot. Other than that the pic is just simlpy dynamic and great! I can't wait to see some of the guys around here to color it! |

Hi, this is my first crit:/
I just want to say that it looks very cool, it looks a lot like someone that would be in Saint Seiya, not sure if you were thinking about that, especially the armor. The pose is great and the foreshortening looks perfect great job love this style of character |

This work made me register here. Take that as you like.
I love this picture. It's hanging on my wall right now. Got pissed off at work yesterday so I started coloring it in (hanging right next to the original infact). Noticed a few minor things as I started to color in terms of symetery, simple things like the piping around the edges of the straps being there on one leg (left leg) and not the other. The armor on the arms not really matching each other (although this could be a design intent. Would make sense to have the sheid arm have more heavy armor on it.) But both of those are minor complaints. I love this picture to no end.
Please color it. Keep the original line drawing as well though (as you do with others on your site). |

Hehe, I was bored today, so I started coloring it. So far, I've only blocked in some of the basic colors and done some soft cel-shading on the face and pieces of the trim on the armor. I know it doesn't look like much, but oh well http://nlb.hypermart.net/coloring.jpg [134 KB]
Coloring with a mouse is slow going
[update]I worked on it some more, and now I think it looks quite a bit better. Still not sure. Tell me if you think it's worth me finishing or not. http://nlb.hypermart.net/coloring2.jpg [135 KB]

What's the ettiqute for doing something like that [coloring and posting what you've done]?
I felt somewhat guilty and like I was going to be scolded for admitting that I printed it out and colored it at work. If it's ok that I can color it and show what I did (giving itchi credit of course), I might follow through on that. Would be interesting to see how everyone colors the image. Many styles on the same work. |

It's perfectly acceptable, if you give the original artist credit, of course

If I may Beowulf......Hit up the straps behind him with the green and gold piping. His face looks good, although I almost think it needs more shading. On the left leg, starting from the buckle, color the next section the same color as the pants, then yellow piping, then the strap green, then the yellow piping again. I can't figure out what you were trying to do there. Also, there is a strap running from the thigh plate to the knee plate that you colored the same color as the pants. And I'm not quite sure why you made his hand blue. There is more of his shirt above the strap across the chest you didn't hit yet, and the thing on his hip should probably be done in the same colors as the side of his knees. The right arm gets difficult becuase it doesn't appear to have many straps to start from and it's hard to tell what actually is armor and what not.
Somthing I noticed last night, Itchi, is he standing on his hair? It looks like it hits the floor and loops around under his foot. |

wow more replies ^^
strangeFate> gah, delete those immediately! they will corupt your hard drive and your ability ^^
hyp> haha you dont need lessons from me. look you got 4 stars!
cicinimo>yay!
jetteKid> wow cool you wasted your first post on my thread ^^ seriously thanks for spending your first post on this. i love anime and am influenced by it in a big way but havent tried to sit down do a REAL bonifide anime style drawing. actually not sure what saint seiya is. is that the ronin warriors thing? i have one of the toys but never really looked into the cartoon. any good?
hyp> heh yeah it's based after the same elf guy. dang havent spoken to her in a while. there's a high res version i was going to get to her..... she's too nice. she always says she likes it even if i do a poopoo drawing ^^
j.tsang> at first i wasnt sure what you were talking about since eant elves be warriors too? but then i had a discussion with this guy on chat about elves and what elves are suppose to be. didnt realize there was a strict classification. i'm kind of in the dark so.... what are the characteristics of an elf?
lunatique> hey how's it going man? glad to finally talk with you in chat. you de man! haha i'll leave coloring to the professionals like yourself *nudgenudge* one day i will sit down and color something......
ylla> AHahahahaha .... "he hass an "elf sword..." too funny!
blindTF> woo very cool. that's a huge compliment. thanks for signing up tp reply ^^ yeah the armor is not symetrical. here's a pic of the first incarnation which you might have seen:
the armor is not the same but sort of based on the proportions. designs are kind of like that in anime sometimes ^^
hoodZ> i can't!! ;_;
beowulfTF>looking good so far. the face is getting a bit muddy but i know its not done yet. good start, man!
blindTF> haha yup what beowulf said ^^ but that is mighty courteous of you. you wouldnt believe the amount of online srt thievery that goes on....well you prolly do ^^ but giving credit and such is all you need to do. most of the time thats good enough.
electro> wow thanks very much^^ i love you!
blindTF> haha hmmm it might look like that depending on how you put the shadow. i was hoping the hair would be right behind his heel (which you cant see)but yeah i see what you mean, it's getting real close
thanks for all the replies guys! you rock! really made my day reading through these^^ |

can you scan more? anything, old, new, sketches (I personally have a thing for sketches) doesn't matter. im digging this style sooooooo much....
oh and those skinny ankles... DON'T change them... especially for the elf characters. Plus it adds so much to your style.
Oh, and did i say that i want MORE ?

Itchi, if I may, a few comments:
One. Your drawing ability is excellent, and you can really capture the depth and personality of your characters.
Two. Your composition is fantastic. How do you do it? Is there a trick you use to get such wonderful scenes?
Three. Elves are traditionally more subtle, more....well, feminine, if I may use the word. Mysterious and playful. This particular elf seems to be rather masculine, leaning kind of towards the Herculean. Most of this masculinity is derived from that large sword he carries. Wouldn't a rapier or some other slender weapon suit him more? ...or, would you prefer the more masculine slant to a tradionally sylphiel race? |
