Thats lovely man .... i love the texture on the finished product ... im still an amateur ar digital paintaing, even after hanging around sijun for so long...
(blame myself... lack of practise.. laziness etc etc)
and i noticed the birds too ... at the bottom ... they really make the mountains more majestic than it already is... adds a touch of 'life' to your painting as well ... movement ...
(PS: just in case theyre not birds, ermm .. "i love how you painted the white dots =] )

I hope so, it's just beautiful! Love the mountain shapes and stuff. Great work, really. Altough I don't get why you made the trees, I mean, they are good, but on the other hand, the lake/see/water/whatever was fine in step 1...

Hehehe... yes, they are birds.

Jabo - I painted the treeline in the foreground to give a better sense of scale. I think that in the beginning, the mountains looked too small.

I wish I had made the picture a bit bigger compositionally, to give it more depth. But I got too far into the image to change it. Oh well.

Thanks all.

Yeah, the trees are cool, but IMO they're located too near to the mountains...

Well, nice pic anyways. Gonna browse your site now...

OOo, nice textures!

If you used a reference image, may we see that also?

Thanks all

For the person who asked, this is the ref I used. Not the only one though... I found a larger pictures of mountains to get a better understanding of the details at the tops of the ridges.

It looks great - you seem to have an ever-increasingly high standard for your works. I appreciate the "making-of" too, thank you for sharing

I'd suggest adding some atmospherical perspective to push the trees across the lake away (and possibly making them smaller) another thing you could try is to reduce the scale of the details on the water too.
