Up 'til now I have really struggled trying to develop a style that I am happy to work in and can consistently produce. I think I might have found it with this one though, I have been trying to improve my digital painting of late and sort of stumbled into this one. This is only my second serious attempt and unfortunately with a mouse!

The ink drawing is something I did awhile ago and just recently decided to do a paint job on it. I would love as much feedback as I can get on my technique, strong points, weak points and the style in general. I really want to know if this look is marketable enough for me to pursue as 'my style' (until I cange my mind again!)

and a detail of the metal...

thanks in advance

Personally, I wouldn't get caught up in something like your own style. You'll build it over time, and when you have it, I believe you'll know.
As for this style in particular, I like the background, but the colouring is a bit dull (his right armlet in particular, as well as some of the lighting coming from behind, I would make it more vibrant). The lineart is quite good, imo, with the varying line thicknesses and all, if linear art is your thing.

If I were you I wouldn't start limiting myself to a certain style. Just draw what you feel.

Is that a plumb bob he's holding in his left hand? just kidding, drawing looks good, and I really like the background, but I have to agree that the coloring seems a bit dull in spots, maybe try and punch it up a bit, thats just my two cents. Keep up the good work though.

JEISE: thanks for the comments. I have been developing my 'style' for over 10 years and still havn't been happy with anything that I could pursue permanently. This is the first that I have been really happy with, so I may change my mind again next week, but for now I think I will try and develop this so that I can produce it at a consistent and efficient level. I can still do inkwork or pencil rendering when needed, but colour painting was definitely an area my skill was lacking. So I am happy that I have been able to turn a weak point into a strong point

CAPNVTEC: thanks, I will try and make the colours a bit stronger in my next effort. I quite liked the understated colours, almost a bit washed out, maybe thats just my opinion though and not necessarily a marketable one.

I happen to like the dullness of the color scheme... It fits together in the "desert" sort of persona that the guys has. Everything is dull because it is timeworn and sandblasted... Great picture!
