Here's my take on that day. I live in Tokyo, and everything was business as usual, until my wife asked if I'd heard about the World Trade Centers. I then rounded the corner of our tiny apartment to see the live images of the the two smoking towers.

Please share your thoughts and images.

When I saw the towers falling on TV, I just kept saying in my mind over and over... "they've got to have had enough time to get everyone out,"... Now, I still can't rid my mind of the picture of thousands of bodies being churned by gravity, metal and concrete.

I am going to love this thread, I'm still not over it. I'm going to scan the drawing I made in my drawing class about a week after it happened, I couldn't bring myself to do anything other than stare at the TV and think about it for that whole week.

I was in my car when the news came on the radio around 8:50 Am or so, I went in my drawing class and told the teacher about it, he gave us the day off and I raced home, I've never been so sad in my life...

I was in school when it happened. It was just a normal day, and another social studies teacher came in to talk to my teacher, and he just casually mentioned that some nut flew a plane into the WTC. No one really thought much of it, they just thought, "Wow, I hope everyone's OK," until the news started growing and picking up momentum and everyone began to realize that this was a serious event. They rolled a TV into the room and for the next hour or so, the entire room, which had grown to about 50 people, as they had come in from all over the school to see it, stared in complete silence at the TV. It was completely silent as we all watched, and there was just a huge gasp as we saw it fall. We couldn't believe that the World Trade Center had just fallen. We later found out that our country had just been hit with its worst terrorist attack ever. It's amazing to actually witness these things as they happen and see the impact it has on your life. It started with just a casual rumor and blew up to a life-changing disaster. I'll never forget the sound of that room when we saw the WTC crumble. I remember the guy on the news was just getting audio reports, we could see the video footage but he was only getting audio reports, and we all stared in shock as the building fell and he was not understanding the audio report that it had just fallen. They repeated it to him several times, "The World Trade Center has just fallen," and he just hesitated and asked "You mean one of the sides fell?" And the reporter just repeated it, "The entire World Trade Center building has fallen." It was incredible to see those things happen and look back on it now.

i live in new york city.
it was very confusing that day, none of us knew what was going on. telephones weren't working and tv was gone. if you've never seen the buildings in person you'd have no idea how large they were, you can see them from all over. when they finally went down the dust and smoke covered the city. i get a terrible feeling just thinking about it mainly because it's not over.

I live in NY. Very close. I was at school, but rumors started spreading about the time the planes went in, but the towers still stood. But because there were also rumors about the pentagon, I thought all they were is rumors... until half an hour later, there was no towers, classes were canceled and everyone knew.

I live in England and finally heard about it when i got home from school. Film from the scene was being shown on Sky News as i walked in and i thought it was a movie! Then i saw the skynews logo and realised this had really happened and the shock just sorta disabled me. The whole of New York just surrounded in smog with the statue of liberty in front was such a surreal site. It took sum time for it all to sink in, i may not be american but it still affected evry1 just as much.
