from ew.com today:
"When you're managing a multibillion dollar toy franchise, maybe you don't have time to come up with cool titles. George Lucas, through his ''Star Wars'' website, announced Aug. 6 that the official name for ''Episode II'' is ''Star Wars: Episode II -- Attack of the Clones.'' Uh... okay. ''It,'' the site goes on to say (though we're not sure whether ''it'' is the ''Clone'' title or the movie itself) ''harkens back to the sense of pure fun, imagination and excitement that characterized the classic movie serials and pulp space fantasy adventures that inspired the 'Star Wars' saga.'' (Additional reporting by Adam B. Vary)
What do you think of the new title?"
Retarded.
C'mon. Raiders of the Lost Ark is how you give a Power B-movie a fun title - Attack of the killer clones is how you name a real B-movie. |

Any movie that doesn't have a cheesy title is usually an artsy fartsy flick that reeks of effort, or a stupid action flick that really is cheesy.
Cheesy-titled movies are usually fun.
"Jurassic Park"
"Planet of the Apes"
"Apocalypse Now"
"Alien"
"The Terminator"
Think about it.. when a B-Movie surprises us, then it automatically becomes ten times better than any artsy fartsy movie..
Spielberg realizes this, and that's why he is so successful.

could you maybe explain your definition of b-movie to me? i'm asking because all the movies you mentioned certainly rank as A movies in my personal top list. i find your definition especially odd when it comes to "apocalypse now". you seriously consider that a b-movie? stanley kubrik a b-movie director? steven spielberg, one of the highest grossing producer/directors of all time and one of the best storytellers alive a b-movie director? does that make schindler's list a b-movie, too? and what does fakk 2 or mel brooks or russ myer (lol) rank as in your book? x-, y- and z-movies?
enlighten me, maybe i need to reconsider. |

Actually, I'd consider the above titles decent. I like a title that can in some way give it's own phrase to the creative content within...
Attack of the Killer Clones really misses that mark. And though I'm not a Star Wars fanatic, Lucas seems to be pulling a 180 as far as quality goes, although, once again I'm not a fanatic, and don't fondle over the originals like many people do
maybe it's silly shit to criticize, but I consider anything out there open season, man ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

perplexer- Francis Ford coppola was the director of Apocalypse now. Kubrick directed the other vietnam film- Full metal jacket.
And as for "attack of the clones". well, it doesnt surprise me, especially not after Jar-jar binks. |

oh i see, so i guess you're specifically considering the titling of said movies sound b-movie style, not the movies itself - now i got it. yeah i can live with that. actually i have to agree to some extend. ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

Looks like I forgot to clarify:
An excerpt from TIME:
"Spielberg's most important contribution to modern movies is his insight that there was an enormous audience to be created if old-style B-Movie stories were made with A-level craftmanship and enhanced with the latest development in special effects."
The titles are usually part of that B-movie storyline. |

second: you're right, my bad
well, but coppola ain't really "b" either, no?
impaler: i see what you mean, that is a very interesting concept. me tiny part of the superficial popcorn nibbling, movie loving masses never realized that.
ok, gotta go roshambo my colleague who wrongly assured me that kubrick was the one
